over on the DIY I am being told it is not worth the efort,,I will continue with the resaerch. http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/power-supplies/256601-battery-bank-audio-gear.html
FWIW, I should eventually have some info on the subject of battery power. I am building my b/b board for use in a sailboat (inside cabin), where it will run off the 12vdc system. I also have a laptop brick for home use, and am curious to see if I will detect any differences. At the pace I do things, however, it will probably be a while before I have anything with which to experiment. But I'll report in when I've completed it.
Just installed a matched set of GE 5670w tubes into my chinese 6z4/6n3 pre-amp from YJ. This is feeding my tpa3116.
The tubes make a very noticeable difference in the sound.
for less than $20 on ebay, I think this is a VERY worthy upgrade for anybody running this combo.
Got the tubes NOS, matched, still in original boxes and including a xerox of their data sheet HERE: http://www.ebay.com/itm/SWEET-MATCH...pt=Vintage_Electronics_R2&hash=item4ad58dae62
I know it's hit or miss whether the Chinese tubes supplied with these preamps sound good or bad. Although mine sounded good, the GE's do sound better.More nube than mastermind but here are three options.
You can buy a PS which has a barrel plug that fits the red board. They're cheap as I bought one off Amazon for $7.
You can take your PS to Radio Shack or equivalent store and pick up a female jack that fits your PS barrel plug. You then run two wires from the jack to the board. You'll need to solder these or use small crimp on female connectors. The jack can cost almost as much as a PS.
Cut your barrel plug off, skin the wires and attach them to the board observing correct polarity.
This Astec PS is a buy out special at PE. Originally $129 now $69.

Someone save me from this TPA addiction. :tears:
With the firing up of the green board this morning I think I've tried all the colors. And guess what, they're all winners.
Can't say how the green board compares to the others yet but I do like the fact that there's no on/off pop sound. Lovely combination as expected with the 3 tube preamp but less than spectacular with the solid state TC.
For those of you suffering from the speaker pop noise, wouldn't one of those speaker relay boards offered by the same vendors clear up that problem? They're only a few bucks. Seems like they would do the job, yes?
