Looks great:thmbsp:

What happened to the top nuts?

That looks a lot sturdier than my Ikea rack.

Thanks :)

the top shelf is sand filled and weighs 40+Lbs.

I am enjoying it, it seems that my system is tighter and more responsive in the lower mids and bass. this is a first impression listening right after I migrated the components to it.

I don't know why this is, perhaps because everything was on a metal shelving unit before?
Can the material the shelving is made of have an effect on the sound?

What happened to the top nuts?

Thanks!

I decided to go for the 5th shelf, and ended up short 3 nuts, and today was Canada day, so all the hardware stores were closed.

Tomorrow I will stop after work to get 3 nuts and 3 washers.

But, that top shelf isn't moving due to sheer weight.

I like! At one point i was considering building a flexi, and was going to do the same thing as you, with the single leg in back. Then I realized that I don't even need one, but thats a whole different story.

Anyways, that looks great, especially that birch. The siding you got for the mdf is nice. I originally thought you were adding cut out mdf to all the shelves, which is what surprised me that you would waste so much of it, but it makes more sense now that I see you only did it for the TT. Any reason for no top nuts on the TT shelf?

EDIT: looks like someone beat me to the last question.

while looking at the responses, and looking at my pictures again, it makes me want prettier equipment to put in it.

that birch is so pretty it makes my gear look like crap.
looks like BPC, but its not, I swear.
LoL

EDIT: looking at my CD shelves, I'm happy that i chose the IKEA birch veneered shelving.
it also matches the frames of my concert posters.

Gear looks quality, I can read off Rotel, Adcom, and is that Yorx I see hiding in that rack?

Maybe some nice lighting might fix you up well? The black faces look a bit bland and amorphous in the shadows there.

Also a few pics of the rack in context of the room would be nice :thmbsp:

i have some decent lighting in there.

perhaps i shall post another pic later, after work.....

Doncha just hate that!!
When yer all excited to finish....but run a couple of nuts short!?

Seriously....it looks great!!
I like the idea of the sand-filled top shelf.
Have fun & enjoy!!

Steve

Looks good! Your threaded pole design lets you adjust each shelf (especially the TT shelf), to be level, doesn't it?

Definitely one of my favorite flexi-racks! Nice job man.

Is it top heavy at all with that huge shelf up there?

Evan

the threaded rods are zinc plated, so i assume they will not rust.

as for the finish, sanding stages ended at 320 grit, with "varathane" waterborne non yellowing semi gloss finish.
