RtR PS1 DAC1

A fellow AKer asked for this pic, so I thought I'd share with all. These critters seemed to be a little unusual during this era. Haven't seen em on the web market.

I firmly believe I would be all over a pair of those if they came up around me somewhere close. Well, if affordable anyway...

I know that this is an old post, but I stumbled across a pair of these recently. They needed the woofers re-foamed, and I could find very little info on them online. I just finished re-foaming this week and got them put back together. I excitedly hooked them up to my trusty old Pioneer SX-850. I had high hopes, but was initially unimpressed. However, I started tweaking the knobs on my amp a bit and found a happy spot. When I play the right genre (warm 70s songs), they really excel! I have no idea what they might be worth. I kind of want to keep them, but already have too many speakers. Decisions decisions..

Do you have the subwoofer or just the satellite speakers? Also they would really benefit from a recap if you didn’t do it. The caps they used drift pretty bad and smear the mids.

Can’t help you on price. That would need to be discussed in the dollars and sense forum. They are really rare and with the sub are pretty flat down to 16 hz. You need more power than a receiver will give for the whole set up. I would you a pair of 200 watt amps with them. The 25 inch sub will can make you physically ill if you play it loud enough. :)

It's only the two speakers. I wish I had the sub, as I've read great things about it! I will definitely consider recapping them, as one of the speakers does sound a little off on the mids. Thanks for the advice. I gave the exterior a little love tonight, and they really pop now! :) Now I really want to keep them. If I do, I think I'll definitely make some stands for them to really show them off...

They should sound really nice when you get them settled. They had great reviews when new. (especially with the sub :)) They don’t have much bottom end without a sub of some type. If you have a powered sub hanging around you should give it a listen with it.

What other speakers do you have? If you like what you have better you should move them along. I have way too many speakers taking up space, and should follow my own advice.

If you decide to sell, grab a membership and put them in barter town forum. They will bring better money sold here if you are willing to ship.

I decided to put them on ebay a few days ago. Looks like I will get my asking price (and maybe more). I will probly regret selling them... but when you live in a 650 sq ft house, room runs out way too fast :(.

Can’t keep them all. Have to be able to turn around in the old homestead. Never fear, you will find all sorts of things to keep or sell in this hobby. Next time you may even find something better.

I know this is an old post but the subwoofer that they sold with those was absolutely amazing. Here’s a video of how it works

I disagree. Mine are very pleasing, but I use the n my work top/desk in our office at home. I play a HK Nocturne Five Twenty thru a Schiit Modi ! DAC and all is well for me. A sub or better yet two, would be a good idea in a bigger room. The crossovers on the PS1's are amazing for their sheer complexity.
