Got Cojones? Take The Pepsi Challenge

ponderwilu

Bond ... James Bond.
Take The Pepsi Challenge:The Results

Yeah ... I'm old school. I just recapped a set of 1968 KLH 17's. Playing thru a measley ancient Luxman R-3045 reciever. Added to the mix is an economy disc player from Sony. The sound I'm hearing thru these 58 year old ears is magical.
Right now I'm listening to "Dire Straits-Money For Nothing" CD. The intro to "Money For Nothing" is superb. Full bass and crystal clear vocals. What else could I want?
I'm asking somebody out there to show me what I'm missing. I cannot believe it can get much better. The descrete highs are there. The bass has plenty of punch and the vocals are prominate, clear and well defined. Here's what I propose.
For the edifacation of the community (namely Ak), somebody in the greater Washinton D.C., Virginia area answer this challenge. I'll pack up my complete system and stack it against anything you've got. Drive to your home and set up my system to compare to yours. You can invite some stereo compadres to attend and I'll showcase my system against yours ... whatever it is.
We'll let our ears decide.
Hey ... if I'm missing something I'm man enough to admit it right here.
I do not pretend to know everything. If indeed it gets better than this $300.00 system I put together from ebay I and a million members here, like me, want to know. Maybe you can help us get to the next level. If there is one?
At the very least you can report what you'll hear.
I'll provide you with any and all identification required. Just PM me and I'll happily reply. Is there anybody out there with a set?

Sorry, not in your area, but will be watching this post with great interest. Time for people to put up or shut up. Good luck!

I have owned 17's. I replaced the capacitors with Daytons. They sounded very nice.

If I were local I'd be happy to compare systems. It would be fun to hear the 17's again. I don't think they stand up to my Forte II's though. ;)

Thanks. That's the way I see it too. If somebody has a system in my area that puts mine to shame (and they very well may have) then the whole community will be better informed. If not ... than alot of us "would-be" audiophiles can regroup.

I'll take your challenge... I think you'll be really happy with what I can provide you to listen to... I'm not far from you either it sounds like. I live near Mt. Vernon just off Rt. 1

I just got one sub completed too for my livingroom, so you can be the first to come hear my Barziwaves with them...

And if that's not enough for you, I can pull out the big guns and give you a ride with some JBL's you won't soon forget.. :D

There's been quite a few in this area that have heard my systems, but I'm always happy to let one more hang out and do some listening.

Drop me a PM and we can work it out. I'll be around all weekend.

Hope I don't spank your KLH's too bad. ;)

OH.. I might have to take it easy on you first though.. and put my wife's Aristocrats up against your KLH's first...

:whip:

(and btw, I'm not putting down your speakers or system at all... just trash talking your challenge like any respectful guy would )

Subscribed! Sounds like fun...Pix would augment the experience for those of us who are watching this challenge remotely.

How 'bout it? A side-by-side picture, followed by the two (or more!) reviews from the live listeners. then anyone with the same model(s) can also do a local review/comparison ( insert disclaimer here regarding the influence of amp/media/venue/etc on actual results!)

OH.. and BTW, sorry to see you're a skins fan... They're kinda being handed their ass this year.... again...

One thing important that's missing will be your listening room.Your setup will sound different:yes:(better/worse)in another room.

From a fellow deadskins fan.:tears:

Put it all in the back room of the local VFW and invite a dozen people. Rate them before and after the bar opens. Use a decibel meter and compare at equal sound levels before SIMILOST gets to drop the hammer.

I have a feeling once I flick on something, he may not bother hooking his up :D

That's OK though.. I enjoy the chance to let others hear what I've got...
