Got Cojones? Take The Pepsi Challenge

Loud isn't always what people are looking for. :)

Looking forward to hearing how the systems compare. Question to the original poster... Which version of BIA are you playing. I have the original CD and although the levels may not be as high as the 'remix' that is available now, it sounds tons better. I pretty much stick to vinyl and side 2 of that album. Side two is brilliance.

Yeah, I know LOUD isn't what people look for.. but with the kinds of systems I put together, you need some volume to really show the kind of potential the speakers I use have.

At low levels they sound pretty fantastic, but you add some volume to them to really get the dynamics playing right, and it's an experiance to behold..

Maybe antrat, or someone else that's been over will give their opinion in this thread about what they've heard at my place..

I hate to say it though, and not to beat up on the OP, but there won't be much way to compare. Granted, you can compare tonal quality, clarity, dynamics, and such, but we're talking two completely different kinds of systems... One is meant for nice easy listening, and the other is meant to bring the party on with the band in the room.

That's just my livingroom system.. now my basement system, that's meant for flat out ROCKIN!... It can and will hold it's own with most any system you'll find in a local theater... probably because it's pretty much what they run in theaters, minus the surround...

There's people around here that have very similar drivers in their speakers they've built that I have in mine. And I keep hearing the same things from them, the people that listen to them, and the one's I've heard..

Clarity is hard to match for two and three times the price we've put into our builds if you're buying a commercially built or custom built speaker. Dynamics with the Lambda's are pretty incredible, and large format horns give a reality you'll never achieve with cones and domes, or at least that I've found..

Yep... I still got my JBL's.. There's just not much else out there that sounds like a 2" horn.. JBL.. Altec.. pick your brand, but it's hard to go wrong with a large format horn..

And even though I couldn't fit a 2" horn into my Barzi's, I did manage to stuff a 1.5" into it... Nice sounding horns, but ain't got the thing the JBLs bring..

hehe.. we should send the OP down to visit Analog Addict.. ;)

Aw come on Rob.. it is if you can keep it clean.. :D

No.. I know it isn't, but it sure is nice to have the ability to make it loud and still keep it right sounding.

Wish RayW ws around here.. let the OP listen to his Big Bob's and he'll really understand how many different ways there are to go...

It was interesting, my wife and I both agreed.... at the last AK fest, the best sounding speakers we heard were all pretty much home brew..

RayW's, Cosmos, dnewma.. .and a few others all brough home brews, and those were by far the best we heard..... Interesting too that Cosmos and Dave both had the same TD15 drivers I'm using. They had theirs first though, but I had already planned on buying a pair long before I had ever heard their speakers.

OK.. there was one HUGE pair of horns.. and I think they were home built, but by a guy that builds them for a living.. and man were those insane sounding.

Cool.. we're on..

Great talking with you Micheal. Looking forward to meeting and taking in some good tunes.

If anyone else in the area is interested in hanging out this Saturday, lemme know, might as well get a party started.. Who knows.. the grill could even get fired up if there's interest..

Hearing about this will not be nearly as satisfying as hearing about the L810 vs HPM-100 meet up, but am interested to hear what the OP thinks. I think you should A/B with the KLH at a level they can easily handle before you show off. If you hear simi's speakers at concert level before comparing, it's going to have a big influence on what you hear after that. Not that it's a fair fight anyway, I just think it would still be more interesting if you do it that way.

Ah.. I'm not going to start out with concert levels.. I got some couth :D

Just got off the phone with Spartanmanor, sounds like he'll try and show up too... Will be nice, been a while since we've been able to visit.

He's heard my speakers probably more than most anyone from here, and I've never heard him complain.

I went up to Boston to see Deli a few years ago.. .DAMNN.. that's almost a two day drive.. took almost 14 hours to get there, and just over 11 to get home.. traffic going between here and there SUCKS..

Sure.. bring it on.. :thmbsp:

Drop me a PM if you're serious, and I'll get you the info..

Crap.. now ya'll are gonna make me clean my basement :p:

Working on it.. :D

You know me.. always up for a party :thmbsp:

Shame you can't just drop your k-horns in the back of your wagon and bring them along.. :whip:
