During discussion of the idle voltage and bias current on the 1010 in craxx6969 1010 recap thread http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=505747 it was brought up that the 1010 manual was wrong in the value for the bias @ 50mv between pins 14 & 16. Also this thread from last year seems to verify the error on the 1010 http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=460892 and the question was raised for the 939.

As the 939 is Similar (although both amps are on the same board instead of separate boards on the 1010), would the adjustment error apply to the 939 or is the setting of 50mv correct.

Neither of mine get hot, or what you would term very warm. More lukewarm in that @ idle I can comfortably put my hand directly on the heatsink and hold it there for at least 15 seconds. When run hard the 939 heats up some in that it starts to get uncomfortable after 15 seconds. I know this is subjective but it is longer than the generally accepted 10 seconds.

+ and - 80mA markings on the big schematic in the manual infer 40mA per channel, but the manual says 50mV at the test point.

edit- SAME error as that's in the SX-1010 manual - see this thread

Since there are four outputs PER CHANNEL, each transistor pair is 20 mA which is reasonable.

The voltage difference tho, ISN'T ADDITIVE (equipotential rule)- which is where they made their error.

THUS in my somewhat informed opinion it is reasonable to set to 20mV at the test points, which then multiplied by 4 sets of transistors results in the 80mA schematic notation.

If 50mA doesn't heat up badly, use it. The heat really comes on at higher amplifier power outputs and the slightly higher idle current will NOT make a significant difference in THOSE temperatures.

Mark:Gonna play it safe and drop to to 20ma and mark the manual. This one I'm keeping! I want my Grandkids to be able to have the fun of rehabbing it.

Thank you Sir.
