♫ 23-March ♫ New England Winter/Spring FrankenFest 2019

Yessir thank you Jim for doing all the leg work to make these nice get togethers a reality. I had a great time as usual and I'm already looking forward to the next one.
Also Jim best of luck to you in getting the McMitsu meter box to work once again.
BTW - the problem with the DA-M10 meter thingy is that the primary (input) coil of the power transformer was toasted - maybe from a voltage spike?
I've found a "close-enuff" one from Mouser and hopefully I can resurrect it.
Jim

Hi All,
This was my first time at the Sutton location, a veteran of 3 or 4 fests at Frank's shop. We miss him, and others. Had a great time, appreciate all the footwork (Jim) that goes into putting this together, and for the enthusiasm, good cheer, deep knowledge, and charity of everyone. Most excellent!

I am marshaling my forces to do the maintenance and upgrades (re-capping, add a fan, update the preamp, etc.) to a new-to-me Sony XDR-F1HD tuner. I recently put an amplified antenna in my attic (with an eye to cutting part of the way through the cable TV cord). With that I have enjoyed great FM reception on the family room Denon (4802?) receiver. Now I am looking forward to the performance of this well-regarded Sony. There are a bunch of college stations in Boston that are on the edge of signal strength at my house. Thanks John S. for bringing it and talking me into buying it!

I will do a repeat of the dogs and kraut next time. They seemed to go over well; 5 pounds of tube steaks disappeared in 20 minutes!! Having the kitchen there was very convenient!! (saved me from having to fire up the coleman stove in the back of my wagon. Which I was fully prepared to do in order to complete the mission!)

Thanks Hugh - the dawgs were awesome!!
You’ll enjoy that little Sony - try it first without the mods.

No voltage spike but what happened is I was replacing the meter lights in the front as one was burnt out. Apparently I shorted one against a ground and the whole unit stopped working. Yes hopefully you'll be able to resurrect it without too much of a problem.

I see a lot of "squaring the circle" with those round dining tables at the venue. Note to self, bring a rectangular table if I make it next time.

Next time I'm using a round table. Seems they are much more solid & stable. I had set up on a rectangular table and was getting a lot of feedback in my TT from my speakers, which were on the floor on stands. Jim had his set up on a round table and didn't seem to have the same problem.

One my fest finds was a Nak DR-2 tape deck with some issues. Cabinet was beat up and the balance knob was loose. Turns out the balance pot had gotten knocked apart, but not so badly it couldn't be redone. A little body hammer and file work straightened out the housing. Now I just need to get a belt set and it'll be back in action.

Interesting. I guess one of the four legs is adjustable?

I actually meant there was a lot of this, which looks an accident waiting to happen:

A belated thanks to everyone for organizing and even just attending Frankenfest. I enjoyed the event.

Ok, I’m embarrassed, the green blanket is mine. I sold the ADS 780’s, the Phase Tech 7T’s, and the Infinity Qb’s at the reverse auction. I had a blast! I was next to Tom and Jim’s Table with the massive Sansui amp. Peter
Hey Peter. Thanks again for letting me set up some gear on the table you were using. You were a huge help! Looking forward to seeing you next time.

Your Victor M-7050 was warping the table! I bet it left a permanent dent ;)

Hi Everyone,

Thanks to everyone who coordinated this. Had a great time even with having to set up on the floor in the corner at 11:15 but it ended up not being a problem. Just shows how well attended this one was.

Cheers,

Ed
