1.5 ohm resistor in series with speaker

All this talk about resistors inspired me to put the 1.2 ohm resistor in series with the 2.0 ohm on my maggie's high freq. Now they've been transformed from ultra-bright to very warm indeed. Happy camper here. Norah Jones never sounded so good.

The cheapest tweaks can make all the difference in the world.

System:

Carver TFM-45 amp
CJ PV-10A pre w/TFs
Sony SCD-C2000ES cdp
Maggie 1.6QR speakers
AQ King Cobra rcas
Romex 10 ga sp. wire

Good to hear.

Anxious to try them on my HPM-100's.

By the way, sweet system you have there.

Interesting, but you gotta love Bob and his tricks. I do have the upmost respect fo him and the way he has marketed (for bad or worse-depending on your opinion) his gear and philosophy. The switiching power amps make cheap and realitively powerful car stereo amps and sub woofer amps.
I had a rebulit M-400t for a numer of years, a decent amp, but not much resolution, and muddy in the bass department.
Once I finally got a amp with a real power supply, I never looked back. perhaps the difference between merely watts per channel and quality watts per channel.

Results of my resistor test

My resistors came in. Attached is the graph with and without the resistors. The measurements were taken from my seating position ~8ft from the speakers. Mic was placed center to speakers. The top green line is without the resistors and the purple line is with the resistors. I chose not to tear into the crossovers at this point and just put the resistors in series with the speaker.

I used the Pink Noise function of my Pioneer SG-750 eq as the source.

The response doesn't significantly change and the levels appear to not change up to about 70Hz to a max of ~2.5db depending on frequency above 70Hz. The response is smoothed to 1/6th octave to make the graph easier to read.

The hump at 50Hz is from the room response. But that is not the point of this thread.
