With apologies to the Grateful Dead, what a long, strange trip it's been!
What do you say when you hit the 10,000-post "milestone"? It seems like a good time to say something profound, something meaningful... but what? :headscrat
I wish I knew.
I could write "10,000 things I've learned from AK...", starting with racooning woogers and on from there, but I can't realistically think of that many, although the actual total may well be higher than that. Recall isn't always quite so good, in middle age. :sigh: I do know that there is no way I would ever, ever have been able to hear and enjoy the music I do now, in my home, if it weren't for AK. And the lessons go way beyond just that.
I could probably find 10,000 words of kindness, acts of generosity, and examples of the best sides of humanity, among the posts I've read here, and list them all out, to remind you all of what good people you are. There is hardly a better bunch of people anywhere online.
I could simply write "THANK YOU" 10,000 times :ntwrthy:, because that might begin to express how grateful I am for this site, that provides so much interesting, amusing and informative reading night after night. I've learned at the vicarious side of true masters how to fix up my gear. I've laughed until my belly ached, at some of the funniest wit anywhere. And a few posts have brought a tear to my eye. Movies don't do that to me any more, but this place sometimes does.
I could say thank you for putting up with every one of the words I've dumped into so many long posts, that --almost unbelievably to me, some people say they actually read in full-- and still letting me hang around here afterward... but I'm afraid that would run well over 10,000 words, too. Sometimes the old fingers get carried away... I know many of my posts didn't add much worthwhile to the world, but I hope I've written a few words here and there that helped someone, or that brought a smile to someone's face, or a laugh to their lips. If I have, I'm happy, although I know I can never give as much as I receive from this place.
Maybe I shouldn't say too much of anything, as I know Tentoze and Sandy G and mhardy6647, who all have more than 20,000 posts, will just chuckle at the idea that a still wet-behind-the-ears pipsqueak thinks 10K seems like a lot of posts... :lmao: but that's okay; they've earned that right. :thmbsp: Grumpy may say something Grumpy, but I see through that facade, too.
Maybe I should ask if this many posts qualifies me to be no longer considered a "Newbie"(?). Or maybe I should ask if there is a secret handshake, or a password or something. But maybe that isn't something one asks. Usually those things are bestowed when one is deemed ready, and asking may be a sign that one isn't ready yet.
And deep down, I know there isn't really any such password that is given... the key is found within, when one realizes how much one can learn --and has learned-- from a simple website, some forums on a discussion board! Not just things about audio, but also things about Karma and life. Once you got that, what more is there?
No, I really don't know what to say, but I'll repeat the THANK YOU to all of you, because of all the things I can think of, that seems the most important one, and the dominant emotion. THANK YOU to Kamakiri for starting this place, to Grumpy and all the other mods and people involved in keeping it going, and to everyone who posts here and makes this such a great online community. My life would be poorer, less musical
, and less satisfying, somehow less complete, without all of you! May the audio gods smile on you and enrich your lives, as much as you have enriched mine.
To descend from the Grateful Dead to Bugs Bunny in one short (or not-so-short
) post, I guess th-th-that's all, folks!
