1210 Mk 2 - No sound

Hi, wonder if anyone can help. I bought a 1210 last year off ebay. I want to start listening to my vinyl so bought a Fosi Audio Phono Pre Amp and a Lepy Stero Amp plus 2 x 80w Stereo Speakers.
I have connected it all up but all i can hear is a feint sound from the turntable. I plugged my headphones into the pre amp no sound at all. Any ideas most grateful? :(

I'd start by trying to connect it to another amp / receiver with a built in phono stage.
 
I wish i had another one. Its odd that if i just connect it to the pre amp, i cant hear anything through headphones socket either. Im unsure if the amp has a pre amp in it.

Is there an input on it labeled "phono"?
 
First thing I would do, break out the multi meter and confirm the cartridge was good by checking the resistance on the coils. I had a 601 that I thought was a lost cause, spent a day working on it only to determine the unit was fine and it was a bad cart the whole time.

Secondly, check for continuity from the headshell leads to the ends of the rca cables. Red to center tip, green to outer shell, wite to center tip, blue to outer shell.

If confirming those are all good you can investigate the set up further.

Low output was a symptom of both a bad cart and bad rca cables which often require replacing as they are bent against the wall and the outer ground begins to break.
 
Hi, my multimeter has arrived, do i just turn the turtable on and touch each head point with it? Cartridge type attached

Yes i watched that video earlier but it isnt relevant to the head i have unfortunately as theres no wires on the cartridge.
I have bought an RCA cable connected it from the pre amp to the amp and now all i can hear is buzzing through the speakers and record playing feintly on the turntable but not going out through speakers

To check the cartridge you need to see if the coils are good and equivalent. Red to green and blue to white. For rca's start with continuity test.....then check to see if the rca cables R are also equivalent.
A cord can still be continuous, but be hanging on for dear life by a single strand of wire and still read continious.

This test should take like less than 5 mins to perform once you become familiar with the process. Everyone starts somewhere.
 
So I have put the meter onto white to blue then red to green and both read .001 MO on multimeter? Attached back of cartridge

Put it in Ohms.....not MOhms.

Usually a good cart will be around a range of 600 ohm but can vary. You are not in a proper range currently.
