$15 Radio Shack Amp that kicks - the Accurian

Should the connector going to the line-out be moved to the receiver input connection? Or does disconnecting the board somehow automatically change the line-out to a line-in?

Just disconnect the board via the two disconnects. The Output jacks are wired in parrallel, so they will become your source inputs.

I just ordered one about an hour ago. Should be there either tomorrow night or Friday morning. I figured I'd use it to play music while I'm sleeping.

I picked up the last one in Memphis this afternoon, a display unit for the advertised price. I was kinda worried when I saw it just sitting on the shelf, powered up, with nothing attached to it.:scratch2:

Cracked the case, removed the board and and sure enough, I found what you see below.:pity: No output. The tranny looks nice, tho'. The weird thing is that I bought it from the store manager. Surely, he knew it was toast.

It goes back tomorrow.

"Sorry, no return!"

I wouldn't be surprised.

It's approximately 12x8x3 and about 10 lbs. It doesn't have the weight or dimensions in the manual.

Got mine today, bought two, haven't done the mod just yet,but will soon.I guess it was my lucky day finding these at my local RS.Went into the store, asked about the amp,the salesguy says he has 2,goes into the back storeroom, comes back with the amps and the matching speakers also!! Tells me that he has no use for the speakers without the amp,so he gives me them at no charge,2 pairs!!:yes: Anybody got any ideas how the speakers could be used in other way's beside the way they are intended?:scratch2: The one speaker has a cooling fin about the same size as the amp, guess I could pop out the screws and take a look inside. The speakers have a 5" woofer driver and dome tweeter, have pressed wood cabinets and feel pretty hefty for their size. Not a bad deal,2 amps and 4 speakers for $32.43. I have an rca lyra rd900 w . I was wondering, if I could use its 900mhz transmitter with this? Any help would be appreciated

I just picked up the last one in my area.Im not sure if its all of Phoenix,or just a 25 mile radius. When I called, the employee said someone had called about it earlier that day,and went to check to see if it was still there. When he confirmed,I took off like a shot.If it was an AKer,Im sorry about that.
I got it home and did the mods, and hooked it up to my Celestion Ditton 100s and a dvd player.I was very pleased with the sound. In comparison to my T-amp,it has much more bass, and more bass than the Super T,also. The T amps seemed a bit more detailed,if my memory serves me,but this amp has several advantages to either T-Amp in my opinion:
1)More substantial in weight, better balanced, with feet that grip to surfaces.I dont have to worry if I pull a cord, the thing will come flying across the table.
2)Much more bass, with greater prescence than either T-Amp.
3)Much more power, and more power in reserve. With the T-Amps,youd get to a certain volume, and then no matter how much more you turned it up,it never got appreciably louder. This one really does get louder the more you turn it up.
4)I dont think the high end is bad at all.I think its less detailed with less of a soundstage than the Ts,but with more substance, not as thin sounding as the Ts could be.
5)I have much more leeway on speaker choices with this amp. With the T,I was always shopping for something much more efficent, just to get decent volume. This one is much less choosy.
I also compared this amp to a Panasonic SE-HDx2 I picked up used a few weeks ago.It had about as much power as the Ts,but the bass was much more present .I think for low level listening the Panny is the warmest, smoothest sounding of the bunch, but ya know, maybe I think this is because when something can only get so loud,it masks all the flaws. The louder it gets, the more things you can pick out.
Overall,I think this RS product kicks some serious ass. What can you get for $15 that would come within a mile of this thing?I mean,in my mind it kicks the Super Ts butt in many areas, and that costed me 10 times as much. You give a kid this amp,an ipod, and a set of medium to high efficiency speakers, and they will have a really fine little system.
Get one if you can.Its a real value.

Pretty cool, I wonder if it's the same amp built into the speakers. :scratch2:
The guys at my local R/S were the typical R/S counter guys, but Newman's goint to take care of me. :thmbsp:

If anyone needs one....

..check with Macaltec. I think he has a few he was thinking of getting rid of....:thmbsp:

The local RS called yesterday to tell me my amp came in. So now that's three acquired and modded. I've tried them on some Minimus 7's and some older Sony's. Now that someone posted about successfully using them on some 4ohm speakers, I'll try my 6-ohm Baby Advent II's at low volume.

I'm curious to see how these do with the Advent Legacy II's, Large Advents, and Avids I have on my shelves.

That is a great deal! I found a pair of the speakers locally online, but just haven't been motivated to pick them up. But I've read they are good. Google them. Somewhere there were procedures on by-passing the speaker amp. The speakers are suppose to sound good. (Radio Shack online reviewer even mentions by-passing the amp.)
