1959 Motorola Console, Gauge Wire?

I suspect either would work fine. The 8" is probably OK but possibly would benefit from a crossover upgrade to limit how high it tries to go.
 
So if I get the Dayton, the crossover would be 1950Hz. If I get the Tymphany, it would be 2225. I used the chart you provided. I wonder which would be better.
 
six, half dozen, possible neither is ideal and the cap would need to be changed. Might also make sense to re-configure it a bit so the 5 1/4" and the tweeter cross at different points, or you may find it needs a resistor to drop the level on one of the drivers so it balances out nicely.

speaker design is most definitely not my strong point. I get the very basics of it but I tend to approach this very much from a trial and error standpoint, often with many errors.
 
Hi Following your thread because I want the same thing out of my motorola - I have 2 right and left channel speakers, considering adding an Dayton AMT on each side as sort of a super tweeter.

Amplifier not powerful enough. And your console only puts out maybe about 10 watts maximum per channel in real life. Remember, 35 real watts/channel with the kind of sound you want out of a console save for bass light, in that era was some, $2595. Which is as powerful as any factory built console ever made got. This in 1959 being a Fisher President III or a Ampex Signature. The price then of a decent new automobile. Want the best, you have to pay for the best. The Motorola is not junk, it's very nice. Don't make it into something it is not.
