Once upon a time I found a thread on options to replace the dial lamps. Now that the search function is down I can't find it. Seems to me that I recall something about adding some brass bits to the shorter bulbs...does that ring a bell for anyone?

1/4" cold water copper tubing for Icemaker works fine for the extensions. You don't need full circumference soldering. Just tack solder them on the end. Either do one end long or both ends short (might be easier 1 end long). Using incandescents, paint 1/2 of the circumference of the glass with Testors Gloss White model paint. Let dry. The painted side goes opposite of the glass. It inhibits light leakage around the back and reflects back into the glass edge. This is NOT BACKLIT Glass. It's edge lit so the bulb has to be in a specific attitude with regard to the glass. MORE SO WITH AN LED!!

Thank you both! Larry, I bought the incandescent lamps from www.rr-artifacts.com that he sells for McIntosh products. He adds the white reflector. They are thinner and shorter but should work with the extensions soldered on. I hope!

My friend with the soldering skills that I don't have was able to take the ends from the burned out original bulbs and solder them to the replacement bulbs. It worked out great!

Glad it worked out. I was going to offer this as a possibility before, but had no idea of the type of bulb or how it installed in your unit.
