1971 Delco Wonderbar search borked

I am struggling with this 15CMW1 Delco car stereo. From my brother-in-law's Caddy. The search doesn't work and I am clueless, mostly because I am not good at mechanics. The Sams Photofart manual has no section about it (and is a pretty crap scan apart from that). When I press the search bar it draws 5 A as my PSU goes into current limit but nothing is moving. Where can I find information on how this is supposed to work?

Found this guy on Jijpijp (Dutch for Youtube) who has the EXACT SAME radio as the one on my workbench! Could be the same thing. Never could figure out how it moves. Turns out it's spring powered.

I don't mind shelling out cash for a manual but a) it must have the information I need (my Photofart doesn't) and 2) must be a good scan (which my copy isn't). I've paid for some pretty bad scans in the past...

Wow... the plot thickens... Turns out it is always useful to have the symptom description right. I assumed the search mechanism was borked but as it turned out it works just fine. The solenoid just draws so much current that my PSU goes into current limit. Jacking it up to the max (12 A) fixed this and even though it still goes into limiting the remaining voltage is high enough to prime the spring. Now it is only electronics that is not cooperating and I am good at that. This radio will work right again.

So this was all for nothing...

Not for me! The 'Adventures of Johnny Bravo' are always interesting. Fighting dragons... saving damsels in distress...
Now if I could only get a bottle of Bols apricot brandy here in the N.C., USA

Ah, Bols... excellent stuff! I myself go for Zwarte Kip (Black Chicken) eggnog. Yes, I'm getting old... :P

Translated "Black Chicken" eggnog?? Are the eggs from some special black chicken? :D No telling for tastes...
OLd?? I'm 69.. I've slowed down but not ready for some rocking chair attitude. Never say die! Wiser but not as foolish as my young years.
:beerchug: have an 'egger' on me!
