More so being to broke to fix the things wrong (transmission + leaking antifreeze) where getting a newer car was smarter money wise vs spending money on the rusting car.

I've had this thing kicking around since 1990. A birthday gift from my girlfriend. 72 Olds Cutlass supreme ragtop. 350 engine, TH350 trans, A/C , originally was a pale yellow car but previous owner painted it a nice Cadillac metallic charcoal color. Unlike yours mine is a more 'driver quality' car. Still have it. sitting at 112k miles now.

Gorgeous shot of the olds in the cornfield. Only things missing are the hot babes, boombox, keg of beer, fire, and the tub of butter to go on the corn pinched from the field.

Sadly, it reminds me of how uninteresting and bland most common production cars are today. All sharing the same basic shapes & styling cues.

I know little about cars- I just drive em to get somewhere- but my father had one of those in green. I drove it a few times and it was by far , the fastest thing I was ever in. It was a 4 barrel that averaged 17 mpg and probably less in town. I remember going from my place to Harrisburg on the Pennsylvania Turnpike and getting there in about 80 minutes , a 100 mile trip.

Yes pick up a Hot Rod Mag about ten years after it was sold it had some history about 442's. GM went on strike that year so production numbers were low.
I got a 79 Hurst Olds in 82 white and gold was a good car for GM standards back then.
 
That 98 would actually pull the front wheels if you floored it and let off a couple of times.
I won quite a few bets with that.
Once snuck 5 people and big cooler into a drive in. They were all reasonably comfortable back in the trunk.

On my Satellite, I've converted it from bench to factory buckets, added dual sport mirrors, a "tuff" steering wheel, a Road Runner hood, rallye wheels, and a cassette recorder pod with a modern stereo.
I've got a complete power window setup, cruise control, "machine gun" exhaust tips, and a "pistol grip" four speed setup yet to go in.

About ten years ago, I bought a car transport dolly from a guy that had a loaded up 76 Cutlass.
Black with red interior, PW, tilt, cruise, swivel buckets, and T tops. Factory 350 car but he was building a 455. That was one sweet car.

Those windows in the back are great!
When I was a kid one of my baseball coaches had a Vista Cruiser,after games we would pile the whole team with coaches in that wagon for a trip to Dairy Queen.
The wagon was stuffed full with people,if we won horn beeping kids hanging out windows screaming. No seat belts were worn,don't try this in todays times. :rflmao:
 
I actually had a 91 of these, it was the curvy style caprice wagon with an olds badge on it. fully loaded with all option trailer tow...I think it still plies the roads
