1989 Technics SA-R477 New Class A

Ya, I don't think from what i see, that unit dos not have a full top grill on it, as it looks like the only way it can stay cool is thru the smaller slits on the top of it, i mean its a grill, but not a large one, as most units had, might want to get an extra small fan to put on it and face it down on the unit, as ive heard of folks doing that as these built in fans have been known to quit working, just saying,, lando.

Yah I was thinking of doing that anyway...I have seen a few different units on Amazon but I think the ones I have seen on parts express are the ones I am going to pick up...probably more than I need but better safe than sorry right :)

So ... had it on almost all day today...every bit of 10 hours. I was laying down mostly Jazz and not turned up loud.. When I went to shut it down just a bit ago...It was cooking!!!!!! Grabbed the laser temp gun and pointed it the same place as the other day..... 153 degrees...holy ****!!! I ain't kidding, that beotch was hot! The fan was going but not very fast, not like it was when I was pushing hard the other day.... I think you may be right about volume sensitive fan speed.
 
Ya, id keep it down a bit on the volume, at least until you get an extra fan, as i said the top grill aint all that, still dont why they it that way.
 
Hi all, I just purchased a Technics SA-R477 off EBay, I am very happy with it barring one issue, THERE IS NO SOUND FROM THE REAR SPEAKERS. I have followed the manual as far is it goes, Dolby surround is on, I have tried two sets of speakers which both work when connected to the A or B speakers terminals. Everything else on the unit works as intended, it’s just the surround sound rear speakers, anyone tell me where to start? I am a mechanical engineer so happy to take things apart but not an electrical so need good guidance on testing. THANKS for your help
 
I had one of these SA-R477's it was a great receiver. I had to have it repaired once. I could not get past the 5w rear surround power. I donated to my nephew to get him into the hobby and replaced it with a Technics SA-TX50, I liked this receiver so much i bought a second one. Now with the lack of HDMI connections & RGB, I have retired them both, for an Onkyo TX-RZ3100. I may put one back into service as an office radio. Congrats on your find.
