1st Album YOU bought, not given.

Abbey Road. December '69 (my birthday). I still play it and despite its rather "worn out" sound it triggers the most beutiful memories.

My first LP was bought in 1963. It was Lionel Hampton. "LIONel" An Audio Fidelity recording. As a Junior in high school, I had a real job (gave up the paper route 2 years before). I was paid a whooping $1.25 an hour. I paid $12.99 for the album (most LPs were ..$1.99?) and I still have it.

My first 45 was Lou Christie, "Two Faces Have I", and my first album was "Meet the Beatles". How did we survive with Silvertone Transistor radios and without MP3s? :-)

I think my first LP was Monkees Greatest hits. I was in grammar school and hadn't figured out the Monkees weren't cool yet. Though they did have some very good singles like Neil Diamond's I'm a Beleiver.

The Monkees TV show was pretty stupid but good music, some good Goffin/King hits too.

My first LP was the Beach Boys - Summer Days...and Summer Nights. I was 9 years old and I bought it with my allowance at a Woolworths in summer 1965. I think it was a great start to my LP collection. :music::music:

Grateful Dead Europe "72", in 1972, I was 13 yrs old. 3 LP's all recorded live in europe. Been a grateful Dead fan since. I think it was about $8 or $9. Still got them, flawless, not a skip or a scratch. CC

Hey, do you have a reel to reel or cass. recorder??? I'd like to hear that...maybe for a few bucks and a little of your time.:D:tresbon:

The Monkees deserve more credit then they sometimes get. Todays Music????:thumbsdn:

You won't believe this, but it was Arturo Toscanini conducting the NBC Symphony Orchestra in Modest Moussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition." On a two-45-rpm-vinyl-disk album, no less!

I'd believe it. If the question had been "the first album you received" mine would be Toscanini and NBC as well, but the box set of Beethoven 1st and 9th Symphonies. It had a big influence on me and still have it
