I would seriously look at amplified PC type speakers these are true surround speakers. Logitech makes some really good ones. Here is an example that costs $66.98 at Amazon. Yamaha also builds excellent speakers such a this example in the same price range these are so much better then a sound bar.

You have a budget of $200 dollars. My first choice, and really my only choice, with in that budget would be the Klipsch Pro Media 2.1 $149.99 at Amazon. I had the Klipsch Pro Media 5.1 a system that is no longer in production, I could cause earth quakes with the fantastic sound that system could put put. If you want to be knocked over hook something like an iPhone up to it crank it up and the sound will blow you away.. For a few bucks more you can get this system setup for wireless hookup, a dongle plugs into the TV, it pairs and you are done. Note the satellite speakers have snap on covers.

Haven't any direct experience with sound bar but I think that's the way to go particularly when you need an easy, clean solution.

I've seen decent (given the scope) reviews for Visio and Samsung sound bars. That was my initial direction at the SO's, but managed to set up a receiver, a pair of Minimus 77s and a Bucket Sub so far with little complaint. More complex than I'd set up for Granny though...
