2017-18 NCAA Basketball

Yeh, my Hokies were butt-ugly against the Dookies, but then they clubbed the snot out of a hapless Georgia Tech team. They'll likely need one more good win in their last 4 games to get into the dance against some tough opponents (Clemson, Louisville, Duke, Miami).

Tough road. Should beat Louisville @ home.

Actually found myself rooting for Penn State against Purdue. They would have had that one if not for some truly horrible free throw shooting at the end. Now they're gonna have to win out and put on a show in the B10 tournament to have a chance at the big dance ...

Speaking of B10 Tournament - Big East tournament is at Madison Square Garden, so B10 has to go a week early to play in the same venue. Should keep the teams hot for the conference tournament, but that leaves a ten day gap till the nationals. Wonder if that will work for or against? B10 might just be shooting themselves in the foot for some more market exposure. I suppose on the bright side, that's more incentive for teams to try and lock down some early byes - last seeds will only have a couple days rest after the end of the regular season - top seeds get a couple more.

ETSU lost at UNCG, but then UNCG lost at The Citadel, so ETSU is now 23-5 with a two game lead at the top of the Southern Conference standings. ETSU's last 3 games are at home, then the conference tournament about an hour away in Asheville NC.

Great player. He always looks content. OU is tired.

Kudos to VT for beating Clem(p)son last night. That win (and the one over UVa) should get VT an invite to the NCAAs.

As for my Cavs, Georgia Tech hung around for a bit, but slowly suffocated. Jay Bilas says UVa is like a Boa constrictor.

They also beat (an admittedly faltering) UNC a couple of weeks ago. I'd love to see win at least one more against Louisville, Duke or Miami. Louisville is ripe for the picking, methinks.

It looks like Mizzou could finally get Michael Porter Jr in the lineup after only playing 2 minutes in the first game of the season and having a back injury that required surgery. The kid is a basketball stud. And could become a dangerous team come tournament time. As a Mizzou fan I am anxious to see him play and I am sure his team mates would be energized by his return.

I hate to see any kid that young with a back injury so bad that he had to have surgery. This will haunt him as he gets older.....

Enjoyed seeing KU beat Texas Tech. Congratulations to the Big 12 regular season champs. Best conference this year, edging out my fave ACC.

I was in rainy Morgantown, WV with my wife, visiting my son, to watch the Mountaineers beat down Iowa State last night. I paid scalper prices, but the visceral experience of live NCAA basketball is priceless. Is a cheeseburger for lunch, steak for dinner, and a big breakfast the next morning really that bad for you?

I had to watch my Cavaliers push around Pitt on my iPhone "ocho," but, hey, family comes first. I'd like another shot at Duke in the ACC Tourney. I may make the trip to Brooklyn - or do I save my beer fund cash for the Final Four?

Would have been nice to have seen Evans play in that KU-TT game but that's how things go.

Monday the 'Horns have a tough one going into Lawrence on Monday. Not a lot of hope there but they still have a chance to pick up a win versus KU or WVU (better chance). They played amazingly well against Okie State being one more player down due to stupidity (Eric Davis Jr. being held out pending investigation into accepting money from ASM) and Mo Bamba with a toe injury.

Lots of Texas "fans" have been calling for Shaka Smart's head this season (his 3rd) - probably won't happen as his buyout is about $13 million and none of Texas big cigars care that much about basketball to cover that amount.

Alan

PS: Happy for you, Darcy!

@finnbow Your Hokies have a chance to beat Duke again tonight and nothing would make me happier :)

As of today the NCAA rankings are: 1) Virginia, 2) Michigan State, 3) Xavier, and 4) Villanova
It's late season now so the cream is rising to the top. But I'm not yet convinced Xavier belongs in top 4 :dunno:

Can I just say I hate listening to Dick Vitale!!!

Has he gotten worse? I think he has. I used to tolerate him, but now it is all about Dick.

Great year for VT. Always good to see Duke go down. As the announcers and analysts pointed out, Bagley III does not play defense.

WVU helped Texas Tech continue its slide. Let's Go, Mountaineers.
