Bruce, please be more specific. What did you edit? Is this a new serial number or an edited serial number? I don't see anything like it in what you have posted this month.

@adrimen, Welcome to AudioKarma Exclusively Sansui. Thanks for making your first post a serial number!

You are welcome !
I am working on this AU4900, and I have found differences between the installed components and those indicated on the circuit. Do you think I should open a new thread or comment here?

The published service information and the actual unit are almost never 100% the same. If you look at the top right margin of any of the schematics, there is a statement in three languages saying: "Design and Specifications subject to change without notice for improvement." Small difference are very common but there are also cases where significant design changes occurred and those are worth tracking.

It's best to start a thread in the main Sansui forum. More people will see it there and it will be easier to find in a search.

- Pete

Yes, I agree, the warnings: We can improve everything, you are warned "...
However, there are incomprehensible cases... I suppose it must be one of those errors that no one wanted to take care of in those years, and consequently, today, no manufacturer provides service manuals or even circuits of what sells, something unfortunate.
I'll open a new thread with my "discovery", thanks!

Preview: "Only 3900"
"Only 4900"
But the two values of R are the same!

I worked in the technical publications department of a large Japanese manufacturer company for many years. Service information is typically produced before production begins so it can be available at the time the product goes on sale so it often doesn't contain changes that are made during production. It's get one manual done and move on to the next because new products keep coming and you just can't keep going over the same model. It comes down to time and money.

It's enormously complicated to get all the details correct. You see these errors on schematics, board diagrams and the silk screening on the actual boards. Don't loose sleep over it. That said, you are certainly welcome to start a thread with what you have found. It's useful information and people working on that model will appreciate it.

Hi Pete,

Apologize for my several errors and also happy to add confirmation that 3 items seem correct! You know I text file import the lists into Excel so I can see the separated columns to check for SN length and missing or incorrect delimiters ( , . ) and funny looking models and still missed some. Doesn't fix typos, or poor eyesight !!

So it's a 'team' effort and in the same no particular order, the corrected comma strings are below with my added comment. Also I have included photos where indicated.

Hi Pete, just noticed this from another AK thread by JimEGR in his Solid State Amplifier V. 06/27/23 listing: Maybe I've found the 1st one for the database......

"L Extra" - first use of nonmagnetic transistors, all later versions had these
1989 AU-a607L Extra 90 watts (JDM)
1989 AU-a707L Extra 130 watts (JDM) <<<<<<
1989 AU-a901L Extra 160 watts (JDM)

It's amazing what info is contained within the AK walls !!

800L, you found a new, previously unreported model. Before putting a new model in the database I always do an internet search to see it in person. I couldn't find an example of an 800L. Your photo clearly shows it. For a receiver of that era, the L typically designates that the tuner has short wave bands in addition to AM and FM. It's also interesting to note that its a single voltage North American model. Rare indeed.

9090DB, serial number corrected and added to the November list.
AU-alpha 707L, not sure what I was thinking for that one. I get a little punchy after a couple hours sifting through serial number data. I've added it to the November list.
AU-D707F, another one I went cross-eyed on. Added to November list.
AU-V7500B added to November list.
AV-7100, corrected and added to November list.
AX-7, corrected and added to November.
C-2301 Vintage, that serial number is already in the Database tied to a TU-D99AMX. Both units are from the same decade so one of the two serial numbers must be wrong. Since you provided an actual photo of the SN, I'll delete the TU-D99AMX and add the C-2301 Vintage to the November list.
MA-7,238090072, corrected and added to November
MA-7,238070112, corrected and added to November. I should have picked up on the first digit being wrong. There are none built on line 83 but a lot built on line 23.
SR-1050C, corrected and added to November.
SP-3500, the AA-3900 is already in the database so no action taken.
SR-929, 0 works, the 4th digit can only be a 0 or a 1 because it is the first digit for the month. Added to November.

I really appreciate you taking the time to chase these down. Accuracy is important.

- Pete

Glad to be part of the whole challenge of adding legit numbers to the database, l completely understand about 'a little punchy' with so many look-a-like numbers, look at my effort with just a few hundred......even with a cross check! I understand the software you use has good rejection capability so you can be presented with a sometimes daunting list to check out, I'll further try to reduce that with my efforts - specially the embarrassing typos.

Nice find with the 800L....and your model designation knowledge is impressive! I've tried to save photos for all lodged serials, certainly helps the confirmations.

Appreciate your effort & dedication to the cause Pete.....Cheers Bruce.

If I come across the P-30 I will post the label as well. It could be that I have the model wrong. Otherwise feel free to discard.

Edit: It's a P-50:

Thanks guys. You sometimes see a prefix like the C on the 5000 on some of the equipment from that era. Haven't any idea of it's significance but continue to include it in the Notes field.
