Hey All, Got a 2265B that was supposed to be DOA, but it had some mechanical problems with the selector switch and I now have AM/FM audio, the thing I have not encountered before, any other input produces garbled signal. You can make out the music, but it is completely garbled and distorted. Not something I have encountered before, so I am asking for any help or suggestions. I have recapped the power supply and power amp boards. Thanks Rich

Update... In playing around with the unit I have discovered the inputs are affected when you flex the frame of the unit. I can get clear audio on the inputs, but moving the unit may cause it to drop out. I went around and tried to find any loose grounds, or bad connections with a plastic probe, but can only seem to make fail and return by flexing the frame. Any thoughts??
 
Probably need to rule out a dirty contact somewhere with Deoxit treatment - maybe special emphasis on the input selector switch.
 
I had a barely cracked preamp board on a Marantz with several hard to see broken traces.
Flexing the unit as you did would affect the sound.

Thanks all, ordered a new relay, going to try that. Get some static as the relay engages, which goes away. When I first got it I had to tap the relay to get it to fire up. This unit was very, very dirty (about 1/4 of dust and dirt everywhere), so I am hoping that this is the culprit. Thanks again, I report back when I get the relay. Rich
 
Well, while waiting for the new relay, I decided to go after the selector and tone switches with De-Oxit and clean the RCA jacks on the back (this unit was thick with dirt inside and out when I received it). After another De-Oxit bath, it seems to be operating correctly except for the 1-2 seconds of static when the relay clicks in (I have yet to have the courage to take a relay apart and may try this one once I have a replacement on hand). When I got this unit it was listed as DOA, but I found the shaft that operates the selector control was protruding from the back of the control and the selection was stuck in 'phono', I adjusted the selector to 'phono' and was able to tap the shaft back into position and get the selector to function again. My question ... is that shaft supposed to be a solid piece and are there any suggestions for securing it so it does not come out again? Thanks Rich
