Dang, I woulda thought those water towers were fairly indestructable, at least as far as wind goes. These pics give you a whole new perspective.

Yikes!

This will be days and weeks just to get things up and running at all, and months and years for some people...

As much warning as there is these days, and as expen$ive as cars are, I can't see why cars were not moved to higher ground. Further, I just hope a certain audio manufacturer in Cary, NC was located on high ground. That water tower must have made a considerable flood in its own right, and would have left the whole town without water.

The "rest of the story"

Considering that Cary NC is over 100 miles from the coast, I suspect that the tower pictured is the same one that is the subject of these articles.

And here is, as they say, "the REST of the story".

Ha, see how gullible some people are? Of course "I" knew all along there had to be more to it. ;) I didn't research it, because if it's on the web, it HAS to be real, right? :scratch2: :D

I wondered about all the cars too. If there was a hurricane coming I would really think about where else to park my car instead of putting it at the curb under a giant oak tree. :headscrat

Hey-- I'm down in the Rockaways, NYC near Riis Park and we DODGED A BULLET this time (!)...I'm on the ocean side, and we got flooded streets but little damage to houses (and we didn't take any water in the cellar) But on the bay side of the peninsula my friend's home got 4 feet in the basement....We had mandatory evac orders from Bloomberg but I chose to stay (even as the rest of my family vacated the house)...Glad I stayed; the storm was blown out of proportion which always seems to happen around here....I stayed in the listening room playing vinyl...we didn't even lose power here! Which is amazing for this neighborhood.
At about 2AM however, on Sat nite, I was like 'maybe I made a big mistake here'...because the winds were really kicking up and my 1928 woodframe home sounded like a cruise ship creaking in a tropical storm.

All in all, the only precaution I took on the hifi side was to bag up my entire LP collection and move it all to an interior room...hope I never have to do that again because they are HEAVY as hell.

Hope everyone is okay for the most part after Irene.
