$250 Stimulus Check - Turntable Or More Vinyl?

Patriot1776

Alright people, I'm eligible for getting a stimulus check for $250 at the end of this month, of May. Help me make a choice. Buy more vinyl, or get a REAL second turntable so I can trash the Ion P.O.S. one that I wasted $100 on? The ION hasn't been used ANY since I got the PL-730.

And what are my chances of getting a decent Technics 1200 off ePray for that amount and it not arrive at my door in busted pieces?

Turntable :thmbsp:
But don't forget to include cost of good cartridge/stylus.
With patience and luck you can find a used turntable ($100-200) and add a reasonably priced cartridge for ~$50. IMO it will significantly improve sound and help preserve the records you already have.

HTH,
Roger

I'm tending to agree with you.

Instead of saving this stimulus check and putting some of it away, I am going to go ahead and splurge with it because that really is the best way to end this recession sooner.

Alright, if I get me an SL-1200 off eBay in working condition, is there any cart made today with a stabilizing brush or stylus guard like the Shure carts that's as good as my V15RS or close to it without costing an arm and a leg, or is there any new cart made today other than the M97xE that has a brush/guard and doesn't cost a fortune?

Yeh , Turntable for sure !! try some yardsales & thrift stores you might score a $20 table & be able to put the rest into a cartridge & maybe even buy an lp or two

Not with the market around here. It's mail order or nothing. I've possibly got one of the few, really good vinyl setups in all of the county where I live. I'm not joking.

oh yeah, i've almost forgotten about our upcoming stim. checks. hadn't even thought about whether to save it or, now that i've seen this thread as a reminder, glom onto a new tt.:scratch2:

hmmm, current tt sounds good, looks fugly as sin.

Besides the thing of wanting to try a Technics out, I'm also wanting a second turntable so I can now possibly have one to take with me when I go to visit certain relatives who do have a good stereo but no turntable, and I can play some records at their houses.

Yeah, I'm going to splurge this stimulus check because that's the whole point of doling them out to begin with. Saving them will mean instead they were wasted. In some places of the world that are doing stimulus too, they're telling the recipients "You can't just put these checks into the bank and not use them, or you can't use them to help pay off your credit card. You can only use these to go out and have a night on the town or to really buy something. It may sound ludicrous, but doing that is the best way to help get the economy going again so hopefully you can really get back to work soon."

You mean what???

They are going to bail out the people who need money? What check? New what? Cartridge for me....

:lurk:

well that sucks , i have seen some good stuff on ebay , but you gotta make sure they'll pack it right & insure it .
what about craigslist , nothing on that either I'm guessing ?

I may have construed things, but I know for sure I'm getting one. *sighs* This may only apply to people like me who are getting disability checks. I'm going to ask a mod now to close this thread IF it devolves into a political discussion. Here is not the place to discuss that.

I found a listing there for a 1200 with only 20 hours on it but also a minimum bid of $240 needed, and no bids on it as a result. 20 hours left in the bidding, and I've just now messaged the seller if they'd consider extending the bidding as I'm interested, won't be able to place a minimum bid until Monday.

Oh cool , best of luck with that Table :thmbsp:

As they will be for me first, on the bills. I'm really hoping the ePray seller extends the bidding on that SL-1200 so I can make a minimum bid on it and hopefully wind up with it. Somebody PM me, just in case, the questions I'll need to ask the seller about shipping to improve my chances of it surviving the trip to the house.

Are there any bids on it at this point ??

You should be able to doa "search" here on shipping turntables , there have been a few threads & some horror stories , just make sure it's insured & has tracking for starters .
