2N3585 Replacement - Trust NTE? Or pay a ton

DigiKey has NTE 2N3585 for $15/5 pack (here; datasheet).

Mouser has Microchip 2N3585 for $31/each (here) or Central Semi for $12/each (here).

Newark doesn't have any.

Would you get either of the above, or find a suitable substitute NPN TO66 2A / 300V driver instead? If so ... what? I can't find much available.

Thanks in advance. Application is in a Crown D150A. Used in Marantz 510 as well. Have searched and read many threads here and on DIYAudio but no consensus on suitable 2N3585 subs.

Is that the orignal part number?

I have some TO-66's and can see if any cross to the 2n3585's.

Have some old cross sheet if need be.
 
I've used ECG and NTE semi conductors for over 45 years. Never had any problems.
The 123a and 159 are excellent general replacements for small signal transistors.

Yeah, they have Crown's P/N "3295" on them, but the service manual states they are "SEL 2N3585 NPN" used in the negative driver position.

The NTE will be fine.But I would lean towards the Central Semi if I was placing an order along with other things.

The problem is the collector connections. It could be done though if need be.
 
Checked my stash, and found these NPN's 2SD471.
A cross to a GE 66 or NTE 152.

Have some of these....

Been drinking a few KY teas all ready, took time out to search for you.


Enjoyed it, no problem.....


Do not know if they will fit......

I was reading the nte doesn't make any of there own. $3 each vs $12 or $31
Semi for me. I don't need some cheap Chinese crap in my equipment.
Nte,last resort.
Some people buy the cheapest wiper blades, head lights, tires. And they serve there purpose.
Others want the security of quality.
I find the mid to upper, that's where I feel best.
But NTE is still in business because there is a call for cheap, and that's just fine.
But bottom end is not for me.

Thanks, I'll poke around TO-220. If it's as easy as bending the TO-220 B /E leads to fit in the TO-66 holes, then easy peasy.

Any ideas on best applications here? Maybe MJE13004 (datasheet)?
 
Or you can ask in BT to see if anyone has a 2N3585 in their stash. I can look in mine when I get home tonight.

TO-220 was developed to replace TO-66 devices. However in this application you'll need to extend the "daisy chain" of Collector connections since there is only one collector screw tab.
