$30 yard sale score: KLH 17's in VGC!!

Hello people!!
Lord, how I LOVE yard sales!!
Picked up a pair of KLH model 17 speakers, in VGC, for $30.
Don't know much about them?
Can anyone clue me in?

Very nice bookshelves - a Henry Kloss design and considered one of the all-time classic speakers in comsumer-grade audio. I had a pair, but I considered them a little peaky in the upper midrange. I passed them on to my granny with a Marantz 2220 receiver. She loves it, but I have the suspicion that they could use more than 20wpc.

I'll be using them with a 30wpc, 1978 H-K450 DC receiver & 1988 Magnavox CDB460 CD player.

I also have a pair. Running them through an AR amp and they sound great to me. Magic. Have a listen to Neil Young's "After the Gold Rush" and tell me these are one special speaker. I want a second pair and I am on the hunt. They are a little scarce in Sydney Australia.

I use 17's with my 9100. Love them!

Just too good a deal to pass up.
Right now I'm using a pair of 1977 Avid 100's ($20 yard sale find, bought from original owner).
The KLH 17's will HAVE to be real special to beat out the Avid's.
The Avid 100's beat out a pair of Genesis 1+ speakers...better mid-range....to take "top dog" honors.
