34000 posts! Congratulations, Rome!

From one (retired) double-clutcher to another, I say thanks my friend! Toot-Toot! :D

Rome

Funny you should mention double clutching. I was taught to do this at both C.R. England and Swift, had to do so on my evaluation with Swift, my road test, with my mentor and finally, when I was tested one last time by Swift before going solo. The explanation of why never made sense. They said that it synchronizes the gears. I'm not claiming to be an expert on how a transmission works, but I am pretty sure that nothing is being synchronized in neutral. So talking about it with my mentor who has been driving over 20 years, we figured it out. Someone realized that if you release the clutch between gears, that gives enough of a pause to go into the next gear. So, even if you single clutch or float, as long as you pause between gears, time synchronizes the gears.

Thanks a lot you guys, you said everything I wanted to say.
Thanks for being here Don. You help make AK the site that it is. You are one of the only AK'rs I know of that thank everyone individually for their birthday wishes to you. That has always impressed me.
As others have said, you are one class act.

Congratulations Don on your hard-earned / 'laced-with-love', "BIG 34K"!!! Carolyn would also [along with your Mother] be proud of what you are doing.

What can I tell you, sir; it's nice having you around!

Cheers, og

Once again it's even harder to control the tears this morning. I've read The Most kind & thoughtful posts one could have imagined. I do miss Carolyn & my mother so much, but being here keeps the sadness at bay.

There is no place on this earth I would rather be as I live this life, outside of sharing my faith in church.

Thanks again for making me feel at home on the Best internet forum & family this earth presents.

To each one of you I pray that you & yours are richly blessed & may the sun shine brightly on your journey!
