Guess I did ok today, saw this out of the corner of my eye while driving down the street, needless to say I stopped rather abruptly. 38xxx and V13-V16 which I believe makes it an early one. Knobs lost their covers and looks like a kid hit it with a pencil, otherwise unmolested. Original compliment of Teles and Mullards along with the output tubes, all labeled "The Fisher". I am pretty sure that today was the first time it was taken out of the case, let alone opened up. Looked like a house cleanout job was going on but I didn't see anybody there. I briefly thought of looking for someone and asking about where the speakers and turntable were but figured that I was allready up on the deal and was happy with that.

WOW! That is so lucky and so COOL! :yes:
Wash that face plate with warm water and some Dawn (don't rub hard, use your bare hands)
Go over it well with some Nevr-Dull, Nevr-Dull won't take off letters but don't rub them hard, just pass over them with no pressure.
Rub the bare metal like crazy though, all kinds of stuff will come up out of the grain even if it already looks clean.
Wash gently again; repeat whole deal as needed or until you're happy.
Then wax it two or three times with some gentle car wax (the kind that's easy to get off). We used the basic Meguiar's because it comes right off with almost no rubbing:

The wax even makes the little print shiny! :yes:
After it's waxed run COLD water over it, that will set the wax.
Dry gently with an old T-shirt or super soft cloth.


That thing will look BRAND NEW! :yippy:

No junk heap for this one. I spoke with a local tech today. I will probably have him replace the selenium, the coupling caps and the other usual suspects and then bring it up.

I hope the output tubes are good.
 
Great find. Enjoy! I've been trying to get a friends mom part with a Fisher 400 with console. The 400 looks to be pristine. Anyway, to find a receiver like this with original tubes, etc., on the curb is great timing, at least. I was wondering where a good vintage tech is in the southern NY/northern NJ. Could you pass on the name of your tech? Either here or via PM?
