5010 VU meter issue

Hello , I picked up a Marantz 5010 cassette deck for $50. Had to clean and work all the mechanicals and install new belts. The only issue I’m having now is that when I press the play button the Left meter pegs out to the right and flutters. It doesn’t matter if there is a tape in it or not. I changed the small 47uf cap next to the J128 pin but nothing changed. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance

You may need to clean the Record/Play switches (S101, S201) on the main PC board. There are two, one for L and R. It's the long switch circled in yellow in the photo. Spray with a little contact cleaner and work the switch back-and-forth many times. See if that helps.
Also, make sure that the mechanical linkage moves the switch when REC is pressed.

Thanks. I will try this. Other than that it seems like a great cassette deck. My brother has the 5030 ,3 head.
