When Bose first introduced the 901 and a few of its' updated versions, it quickly established a sort of cult following as it was a different sounding speaker system with a wide sound stage and some pretty interesting features, etc. In the years since however the name Bose has become associated with small but huge sounding, room filling, all in a box music systems. For what they are they are way overpriced IMHO but they do have their share of the market they have gone after. What gets me about their advertising now is that they will boldly say that their such and such wave radio system will outperform systems many times larger and several times more expensive. I would be willing to put any pair of good small bookshelf speakers along with a moderately priced 8 to 10 inch sub up against any Bose wave radio or small multi-speaker system they make, and blow it completely out of the room. And do it in many cases with two bookshelf speakers and a sub that costs less than the Bose system does. I can say this with certainty because I've done it, and it's a fact...........:yes:

It does say the b word on it. I'm betting name recognition sells that piece to someone that knows the name and little else.

The reasons that people want it have nothing to do with the sound. My wife wants one. She said even a used one on ebay for $250 would be fine.Asked for it for a past Christmas. I thought she wanted a table CD player with good sound. I did some research and found that the Camebridge audio with the subwoofer underneath and the Ipod dock on top sounded better and should be more reliable. It still sits under a clothes pile in the spare bedroom. What she really wanted was to have the same table CD as ABBY on NCIS and to be able to say "oh yes... I have one of those" when her snooty friend at work brags about hers. She wants to have something that she will see advertised as "The Best" in every old peoples magazine she opens. I don't think she would actually play it anyway. She just tells me what to play if she wants music here. Marketing- The dark side is very strong here. Now she wants a WII. She does not do any of the things it does and never will. Same reasons though. I give up. I bought one. Feh!

I'm thinking because the CD changer? They don't sound bad for what they are and don't take up space. It's no different than somebody around here wanting an SX-1980 to brag to others, when the Hitachi monster receiver sounds as good or better. Nothing wrong with it, but this is a bit overpriced for a use one.
