Sounds like a TV tube, have you checked for settings on your chart for the 6 volt version (6 instead of 5 as the first number)? There could be 8 or 10 volt versions too as well as others. All you would need to do is set the fil voltage as needed. Just a thought.

5BW8 is a double-diode + pentode

Tube nomenclature is screwy.....
6L6, 25L6, 50L6.....not all the same!

I've always wondered how they managed to screw up the tube numbering systems so badly. Like on a 6DJ8, what does the DJ8 mean? Is it just a random number they assigned the "new" tube they came up with?

Oh, thanks for pointing that out, I would hate to give bad advice, that could damage something. I appreciate it.:thmbsp:

I should wait for Tom here - still a bit embarrassed about my slip-up above...
25L6 and 50L6 are similar to 6L6 but lower power /voltage ratings, as I recall. Probably designed for series-heater radios? I have a few here as well....

25L6, 35L6, 50L6, 12L6 are much smaller than a 6L6, maybe a 8 watt plate vs 19-35 for the various flavors of 6L6. All beam power tubes though...

And then of course there's the 1L6, used in the front end of the Zenith Transoceanic radio... and the 3V4 (another tube in the Transoceanic) must be similar to the 5V4, right? While we're at it, 6BY7 is nothing like 12BY7, 12B4 would never be confused for 6B4, 6AB5 is an eye tube and 12AB5 is a 9-pin power tube.
