6P3S-E...good sound!

My 6P3S-E's are still going strong, but then I'd expect them to be, as they don't really have that many hours on them.

Thought I would chime in on this thread. I have been using 6P3S-E tubes in my Yaqin MS-20L off and on for two years. The other tubes I have used are Electro Harmonix EL34-eh, Electroharmonix 6CA7 big bottle, Groove Tube EL34, JJ EL34 and the stock Shugang EL34.

I always end up going back to the 6P3S-E, the next closest is the EL34-EH which has slightly better midrange clarity but significantly less bass.

I run the bias between 485-500 mv.

I bought them from a guy in the Ukraine that sells on DIY forum, my wife liked the sound so much she told me to guy another quad "just in case".

IMHO they are underrated tubes.

I am not sure what you are referring to, I am biasing at 500mv not ma.

That isn't the bias current. You're reading the bias indirectly, through the voltage drop across a resistor. The actual bias current is in mA (milliamps) and is some fraction (probably 10%) of the number you quoted. So your tubes are probably biased at 50 mA.

Yep the Yaqin has a 10 ohm resistor, which at reading .5V would be 50mA.

6P3S-E biazzz

I bought these quad of 6P3S-E Russian tubes a week ago.
I put them in my beloved YAQIN MS-34B in place of the KT88 and began with 20mA biazzz and did NOT expected anything beatyfull at all. But the lower frequenties already began to break through..After a few hours I changed the biazz to 30mA. Tubes need a break-in period so I went to sleep while the music was playing. But it was already clear enough that the tubes did a better job than the KT88.
Next couple of days I set the bias to 45mA and in between and came to the conclusion that the Russians sound best at a biaz of 35mA in my YAQIN
Best in every aspect I mean. :music:
Lesson I learned is that the bias not always has to be set to the highest possible vallue. In my case the tubes sounded much better at 35mA, than at 45mA bias
