Hello. What is the differnce between an clasic 8 track tape and an 8 track quad tape.
8 track cassette.

Standard 8 track is 4 stereo programs using 2 tracks per program for a total of 8 tracks
Quad 8 track is 2 quadraphonic programs using 4 tracks per program for a total of 8 tracks

Also, the Quad 8-Track cartridge also has a special notch for the Quad 8-Track player to identify a Quadraphonic tape from a Stereo tape. Also, outside of Open Reel Quadraphonic tapes (when available), the Quadraphonic 8 Track Cartridge format was the only standard Quadraphonic system used by every Quadraphonic system. Records had no one standard format.

There where some 8 track players that could play also 4 track. But there where any 8 track - 8 track quad - 4 track players?

No, there was not. Automatic Radio Gidget adapters would have been the only way possible to play the 4 track cartridge in the Stereo 8. No player which could play all 3 otherwise natively. 4 track cartridges were off the new market by 1970-1971.
