Finally got my hands on my "fantasy" speakers! Just got back from a 4 hour round-trip to pick up a pair of ads L1290/2's from the original owner. To my delight, I arrived to find these mint units packed in their orig boxes! Also included was a pair of factory platforms and the owner told me that they even had the orig driver covers on the mids and tweets as well.
Will unpack and photograph tonight. Can't wait!!!:banana:

Wow.....that's a helluva find and a nice surprise. I've owned one set of L810's and wouldn't mind finding a pair of the larger Lxx90 series or the Lxx30 series lineup.

Nice! This is the black pair that just auctioned from RI, right? I have the same ones.

What are the dimensions of the platforms? How do they attach? Would you mind including a couple pics of them before they're attached?

I have a walnut pair, as well as some spare drivers. Fantastic speakers.

What was the cost?

And next time, swing by my place for some tunes and beer- I'm probably smack in the middle of you and where you got them....

You are gonna lovem.....I used my pair for several years before upgrading and always loved the sound.....Sadly they are in storage now....a pity to keep them and not be using them ....IMO they need an amp that puts out 200wpc to really shine.....The sticky tweeters are somewhat fragile though...but there is a guy who lives in arizona named richard so who can replace or repair them though...Enjoy

I'd be interested in hearing what other 1290 owners like to drive them with. Mine are running off of a Pioneer SX-1280... in a small room 10footx15x7. It just ain't right. It's overkill on the power and I'm sure I can do better than listening to all those 30 year old caps in the Pioneer.

I used a NAKAMICHI PA-7 amp.....loved those 30 yr old caps!!

I'm south of Boston too. Stop by for a listen.

B&K EX-442 Sonata (200wpc).

Denon POA 1500 MK II bench tested at just under 200wpc.

Sansui BA 2000 at something around 110wpc listed, benched at 127wpc I believe.


I also have a pair of B&K ST - 202s and ST - 202+ that would be great to bi-amp them with.
 
I've heard the PA-7 with 1290/1590. Tremendous. It's overkill for me, though, and probably more money than I'm willing to spend right now. 70 fast, solid watts would be enough. A great minimalist pre-amp is something else I need to consider.

I'd be up for that...BYOB I hope, as I am somewhat fussy about my beer. I am still an ads fan although I am not running mine lately.... I hope you don't mind but I have made some changes to my system over the last couple of years...Who hosts first...I would be somewhat reluctant to host first as I don't know you guys yet ...
 
Finally...

Here's the pics. Just like unpacking them for the first time. A few minor (very minor) blemishes but that's really being nit-picky. Not real crazy about the connection location (bottom of the speaker) but I guess that ads to the clean lines of the speaker.

Very accurate, laid-back sound. On some selections I prefer the punch of my Polk Monitor 10B's, but overall these are beautiful speakers! Currently running an Adcom 545 MkII so maybe down the road I'd be looking to move up to a 555, sounds like from what I've read these guys love power.
