You would be surprised...in this economy i bet you could get that amp for $600....or maybe less ....Though I wouldn't sell mine..

Here's the pics. Just like unpacking them for the first time. A few minor (very minor) blemishes but that's really being nit-picky. Not real crazy about the connection location (bottom of the speaker) but I guess that ads to the clean lines of the speaker.

Very accurate, laid-back sound. On some selections I prefer the punch of my Polk Monitor 10B's, but overall these are beautiful speakers! Currently running an Adcom 545 MkII so maybe down the road I'd be looking to move up to a 555, sounds like from what I've read these guys love power.

Keep in mind I think they are rated at 200wpc so don't givem too much ...like I said the tweets are somewhat fragile and replacements are made of unobtanium.... By the way yours look beautiful enjoy!!! They are truly a great sounding speaker!!! Especially when bi amped....

Good job on the last 9 seconds of the bidding... I was at 13 seconds!! I lost those puppies by 4 seconds and $5.00 :tears: But... it's all good! Hope you enjoy them. :thmbsp:

Jmitchnh- how are you liking the sound?

Augy- smart not to let me in your place. I'm a cleptomaniac. But, since I'm in a wheelchair, I make for a poor getaway. Anyhow, if I make it over, hide the hummels.


Regarding a get-together, glad to host, or we could all go to the big AK fest October 3rd I believe it is. Last year was fantastic, as well as the events held at Markus' the years before, and hopefully those at my place before that were considered successful.

Or, we could meet up at the Record Show mid September.

Or, do our own record hunt.

Whatever works.

Funny ...I don't think you could carry away my speakers at least as they would be a two man job without the wheels....Funny you mention hummels as my mom was a collector...I still have a couple of duplicates that I bought her as gifts that she already had.....We should all do a music thingy where each one brings a different album to play for everyone or maybe the host plays the music and we all take turns hosting and hopefully turning some onto new and different music??? By the way wasn't there a restaurant in Boston called the deli house any relation???
 
The Deli Haus was an old haunt of mine- so yes, there's the connection.

What type of beer are you fond of? We could add that to the mix as well. Currently enjoying Hoeggarden (sp?), some Le Fin Du Monde, Tres Pistoles, and Maudite.

A beer lover as well...A man after my own heart......I am currently into american micro brewed Ales, IPA's, Porter and Stouts....at the moment I am enjoying a beer called Hop Devil made by victory brewing co. another favorite IPA is Ruination by Stone city brewing co in Cali. Though it has become quite expensive round here. ....I was into Belguim beers for a while but have weened off the sweeter taste for a hoppy one I am constantly changing my taste...I used to work for a man that owned your old haunt at one time Whitey Keeson

The hoppy one's are the best ones! Hop Devil is righteous brew with 6.7% alcohol... they're Storm King stout is a real stout @ 9.1%. Shipyard makes an IPA that's triple hopped with Fuggles hops that's really clean and crisp! Long Trail's Unfiltered IPA still has a little sludge in the bottom. :beer:

To avoid the appearance of getting too far off subject, I'll say that any of these brews are an obvious accessory to a new pair of 1290's. :smoke:

It couldn't hurt, right? OTOH, I think a fifth of whiskey should be required before listening to Boston's other sound entrepreneur.

Have you ever had Brooklyn brewerys double chocolate stout its real high up there for alcahol content it has definatly kicked my ass a couple of times...Speaking of long trail ......I was at the long trail brewery this summer they were selling qt bottles of a double hopped IPA ....I had a few there and bought a few to take home....boy were they good......I guess it was only a seasonal offering not a regular brew....Toooo bad though!!! Glad to see many good beer lovers here!!! I 'm feeling more at home with each post!!! We should get these guys together for some good brews and some good music on a good system.....thedelihaus has offered to host first he's a beer lover too! We should take him up onit....seems like a great time!!!

Well, I can definately see what some people describe as a "laid back" sound. Not as punchy and high-end (frequency that is) forward as my Polks are but they are very smooth yet detailed.

Only powering with a 100 wpc Adcom and many reviews reccomend bi-amping so I may be looking to do that sometime down the road. I can definately tell that these speakers are capable of producing so much more sound than they currently are. Looking to find a dedicated pre-amp (currently using the pre section of a Carver CM-1090) in hopes that it may add a little more sonic improvement.

It's also nice to be able to preserve a piece of local audio history. I remember passing by the ADS factory in Mass dozens of times when I worked in the Wilmington area back in the '80's.

Looking forward to the next NE AK event!

Glad to hear everythings working as it should....bi amping is always better if the speaker is designed for it.....then you get to play with different amps and perhaps throw an active crossover in between the pre and amps down the line.....augy
