A horn design using Fusion 360

I've struggled with designing a horn with rolled over mouth but managed to cheat a little. Now if I can figure out how to simulate it in AKABAK, since so far, I've only worked with flat mouth and baffle. Looks cool though :cool:

I'm not too familiar with patent law, but these have been mumpin' out for a long time

I think that the mumps idea of Roy's would incorporate the entire horn design which is only remotely the same as the function one. There was also a mention of a straight section which is a big no no. There has to be expansion in the horn and the snout too if it has one even if it is small. Straight walls kill sound quality and this is one of the reasons the old K-77's sound bad since they were forced to exit through a straight wall tunnel.

So other then just fiddling around with design is there a reason you would want to try this shape?

More fiddling than not. With all the tools coming out this is probably a waste of time. CAD allows one to design a horn to fit the project instead of the other way around. Or one can just use sites like this to purchase and download 3D printable horn files. 3D printers are getting bigger and better!

 
Now I have to say that fiddling around learning how to use your software is never a waste of time. I just wondered if there was a choice for that shape for a reason other then learning. I don't know all that much about Fusion but guide curves creating a surface and then a boolean remove in Solid Edge unlocks magic.

Moved on to another horn type. William Neile Bi-Radial 300hz Fc. I'm learning a lot playing with these complex horn types in Fusion. Very tempted to print this, but gonna take a lot if filament.

This looks fantastic! If the STL is available somewhere I’m very interested.
Here's the link. With this new browser-based tool you can pretty much build whatever you want. I simply created a .step file, opened it in Fusion, and modified it to my liking.

 
I think that bifurcating the horn mouth like that is going to increase your polar lobing issues.
I have no idea. Not sure I even understand his article.


One reason I chose this is horn was to beef up my 3D printing skills. This involves taking a horn surface and making it printable. I had to completely rethink how to thicken the sides, since the curved mouth caused my usual thicken process to fail. I almost gave up on it until it finally came to me.

They look great. I've just been trying something similar, using a CNC. I've created a small horn with a circular lecleach profile, and am stepping up to a bigger one using a lecleach iwata spreadsheet. Has to be split into segments, I've made the smaller ones but now need to do the mouth, let's see how that goes.
