If they were free, they were already gone way before you hit submit on your post. I posted free wood on CL before, hit submit, went across the street for gas, and twelve minutes later two guys were splitting up the load as a third guy pulled up!

I've seen it done before. I ran across a guy who had just parted out an old cabinet that looked like it might've held vintage EV 15's or something very special. I asked if he'd sell me the speakers for more than the scrap yard normally gives (he is a scrapper, selling metal per pound), and he said he was actually going to keep these to use in the trunk of his car, instead of his normal plan of selling them for the magnet weight. I didn't even check to see where the ad was located... thinking it was in the free section, due to no real price being listed. But, it's not... it's being sold. So, either it is really just a dollar, or he is in violation of CL rules - as you must put an asking price on your ad... no auctions allowed.
