A TT for my Tastes

That sure is pretty...

Sam, saw your post. Had several TD 160s. The last one sounded really good with a low end AT cart. Of all the Thorens I've owned the 160 was the best sounding one....a real keeper. Picked up a clone of the Dual 1010s I had in high school since you last posted..sounds decent for a low end table. Enjoy the Thorens. Looks great.

Eric, that's great. Those Dual 1010's are great looking. Very compact. I have no experience with Duals but the 1010 looks sweet. Thanks for the positive vibes!
 
Congratulations, Sam. It's great to see the beast in position and so solidly isolated from the floor. And yes to the cleaning of records!

Hah! Bruce its great. Where I have the shelf is fairly awkward..I mean it's great because it is next to a couch but by no means is it ideal. The shelf was no fun to put up in that position by myself but it wasn't too bad in the end.

I've been rocking out all day. Thoroughly enjoy the ability to safely walk around. Before it was like being held hostage in my own home.

I plan on getting one or two 1" thick squares of sandstone and placing them underneath the 160. So it will go, 3/4" baltic birch sheet + *cork or something*+ sandstone + *cork or something + sandstone + 160 on big tall tender feet.

I haven't completely thought it out but I want to add some mass and separation in my platform......if its not one thing its three.

Our job is never done.
 
This weekend I took apart the 160 and added some dynamat to the motor chassis and sound coat to the sub chassis ( http://www.partsconnexion.com/damping_soundcoat.html ) and am loving it. I don't have the suspension perfect but I have it level with a 3+ second vertical bounce. I will mess with that later. After a few favorite albums I have only noticed positives. To my untrained ears I can't notice any background noise. Bass seems spot on, may I dare say even better. I was worried about bass but am no longer.

The process took all day Friday and a few ours today. I have never taken apart a 160 or any TT apart for that matter but it was no big deal...just time. I am very happy with my 160 and setup. I want to thank everyone for helping me. I have learned a lot since December.


My future plans are new plinth and tone arm. Since those require a little money they will be down the road but are nonetheless ever present in my day-to-day thoughts...



When I flick the top plate I just get a solid thump now:thmbsp:

That looks great Sam! The best way to mod is one thing at a time and live with each change for awhile anyway, so take your time before you start in on a new plinth and just listen and enjoy. :thmbsp:
