A/V Receiver/Issue

Hi all,

I recently upgraded pretty much everything in my a/v set up; new tv, a/v receiver, etc., and I’ve been having a weird issue with my tv/ receiver. Right now, I have an Onkyo TX-NR676 with Monster brand HDMI cables running into a TCL 6 series 55” UHD tv. Now, it works just fine 98% of the time, but on occasion my receiver... quits(?) working? Normally, when it switches over to HDR, it’ll stop sending a signal and my tv will understand that, and the gap is long enough my tv will ask if the receiver was turned off. But maybe a half a dozen times, my tv will for no good reason just display static, even when not displaying anything 4K/HDR. Ex: I was playing BioShock 2 on my PS4 and the screen cut to static, even though I was still getting sound. I’ve had this receiver for, let’s say 4 months, and the tv for maybe two. I never had this problem with my old Emerson 32” tv. Is it the receiver? Tv? HDMI cords? I’m pretty stumped here.

Swapping out the HDMI cable is cheap and easy. Never hurts to have a spare since they do fail. Got a spare/second TVs or AVR?

I’ll give swapping out cables a try. I have a 4K Blu-ray player and it cuts out and displays the static a lot on its home screen (never during playback). I did wiggle the cables around and it now does it less... just kind of figured that “high-speed” hdmi cables would be above this kind of issue.

The real fun is when you hook up your brand new blu-ray player (or whatever) with a brand-new cable while also moving around the stack entire of gear. You can spend a couple of hours yelling and drinking (it was a Friday night ) and pushing buttons before you figure out the new cable was DOA...because it can't be that simple.
