A Yamaha amp to drool over on the bay~

I can't imagine anybody in their right mind spending 5k for that ! I suppose if one could score the thing for a grand..... ??? No I have never listened to it but for my ears I've never heard any Yammie gear that I would consider stellar.

May I ask... what do you think is stellar?

Well....with respect to amplification.....

ARC, BAT, Cary, CJ, Plinius, VTL, Classe' to name but a few, a least those of which I am familiar with, either having owned or extensively listened through.

Ahh,I didnt realize it was digital, thats what the D's for
Thanks for the stereophile link, interesting write up.

You may have never heard one, but Mark B´s avatar shows a true stellar sounding Yamaha piece of kit. Actually Mark owns two of those very rare and very expensive power amps.

I never heard one, but according to those who have, those Yammies would give any ARC, BAT, Cary, CJ, Plinius, VTL, Classe, etc. a run for their money.

I have not heard Mark B's piece, you might be correct, but to say "give any" of the aforementioned a run for their money........ to each his own !

FWIW, I was reffering to Yammie gear (mainstream) that I have heard (mostly current receivers) which while being decent-good are by no means stellar !

I am not trying to knock Yamaha, hell I've probably owned more of their products then most folks, I suppose it is more of a reaction to digital amps, which I generally don't like.

Again, if the peice is picked up off the gon for a song and mated with the right speakers / components I'm sure it will make someone very happy....and for that individual...who cares what I or anyone else thinks !!

Without actually listening and comparing, that wouldn't surprise me. But Yamaha has been putting more digital circuits in their A/V receivers lately, too. My RX-V995 was built around 2000 and has great sounding main channels, but for the surrounds and the center channel they used different/cheaper circuits. I'm cool with it in the rear channels, but I wish they hadn't skimped with the center. All 5 channels are 100 watts.

Yamaha developed the Class D MOSFET chips for the MX-D1. Class D is a switching power supply, not digital. I think the sound is similar to another Yamaha MOSFET design, the MX-2000.

Hello Mr.Twitch,
I see your fairly new here & welcome to AK.
I would like to say that the purpose & intention
of me posting this thread is to be educational
and informative, somewhat exploratory in the gear thats out there to be considered.
Thank you for clarifiying yourself abit in your last post,as your opinion's are important.
As a rule of thumb though,We try not to flame or slam any gear as someones feelings may be hurt.
There are tactful ways to do gear comparisons
and a forum to do just that here-

All audio with no attitude is our quest.
Again,welcome!
