There was a lot of online speculation about how it was done. Some thought it was a skill that he had.
But it turns out it was a contact lens, as was mentioned in his introduction at the Oscars ceremony by Nick Cage
When you watch it, you will notice something weird about it, part way through the movie.

Sort of an eye not-contact lens. Hm.
 
The Holdovers
(Payne, 2023)

I liked this, @ times quite a lot, even while there are obvious "nods" to the story in the film Rushmore (1998) and in J.D. Salinger's novel The Catcher In The Rye (1951). Heck, there's even a hint of Whit Stillman's film Metropolitan (1990). But, all told, I liked this production, especially (of course) Giamatti's character. Da'Vine Joy Randolph as "Grieving Mom" was very good.

And a fun fact, it was filmed in the area I grew up in, Western Mass. The establishing shots and a few other scenes were filmed in the actual town I grew up in. The external shot of the diner they go to is a liquor store (or "Packie, for you fellow Mass-holes) in town. It's so strange to see an area you know so well suddenly pop up in a big movie!

There have actually been a few other big films shot there in the last few years.

Se my review ^^^^ Will. It's really good, but it does borrow... from excellent sources, mind you... but yeah, it borrows a bit here 'n there.
