Hello all,

I have a 73’-74' Sansui QRX5500 that is in need of speakers. Anybody familiar with Acoustic Research M2 Holographaphic? If so, would they be a decent match for the Sansui? I’m new to this site as well as Sansui. There doesn’t appear to be much info on line for these speaks so any and all input would be great.
Thanks!

I had them hooked up to my pioneer sa 8500 II and various other amps as well as tube and they never seem to have dissapointed me, they do like quite a bit of power I will tell you that. I also had them hooked up to my 220wpc Perreaux and they didnt seem to mind power :)

I have a set of M1 and I think they are really pretty darned decent speakers. I tad bright IMO. That might get tamed by matching them with some vintage Sansui.

Another good tip, is don't link the item you want to buy.

Another AKer might get them before you do. :smoke:

Welcome to AudioKarma. :D

they're the last iteration of the classic AR 8" 2way, that started with the AR4.

they'll sound good.

I'm running Holographic Imaging M5's on my marantz 2230 and love the combo

Thanks everyone! Part of why I'm thinking of the ar's is that I don't really have too much room for big floor speaks. But, If I go the bookshelf route im concerned that I will miss out on base. Would running a sub to a sansui qaud be a decent option?

Yep. I run a pair of M&L Motion 4's with a sub on a Pioneer SX3700. Just make sure the sub has line level in as vintage receivers don't typically have a sub out.

another recommendation for the Holographic Imaging series of AR speakers.
I have a pair of the small M1 and large M5.

Mark Levinson also agrees. I believe he demo'd his Cello amps with these speakers.

If I were near Ann Arbor, I'd grab em myself :D

I've got some little AR18's, and they aren't lacking in bass, expecially if you put them in the corner of the rooms (where you'll get a 3-6db bass boost from corner reinforcement)
