Hello all.

Is there any company och private person that rewire and upgrades the tonearm for ar xas? Is it possible to “upgrade” the arm so sme headshells fit?

I and @StuartB learned how to convert the AR arm to an SME tube/collar from Marc Morin. We can also rewire, upgrade the the bearing to jewel bearings and polish the pins. I have a couple of high priority AR XA and arm projects to complete but now that my summer commitments are finishing I can get back to these.

I can absolutely recommend the joint services provided by @Hose53 and @StuartB . They learned their craft at the feet of the AR master, our dear friend, the late @marcmorin .

I have the potential to pick up a serviced XA for 250$. Do you think this is a good price, and if I want to change the tonearm to something more modern how much would Steve or Larry charge ?

I would have that tonearm modernized by adding a SME head shell connector , new Wire ( I use Phono 1877 ) and Swiss Jewl bearings and polished Pivot cones.

Its a great arm and shouldn't be dismissed so quickly.

About 150-200 depending on the wire choice and if you need a head shell etc.

A bit more if the counter weight isn't enough for the new headhsell and cartridge choice. I always tell people to look for the lightest head shell
and then later down the road if they need a heavier counter weight they can always get it when needed.

How much of the upgrades you mentioned can be done by a non-professional? I like to tinker with this kind of stuff so how difficult would it be

I would have this turntable serviced by anyone, that was just the two names I saw on the thread
