As I recall, the ADF series were the good ones. Pretty much any that have dual capstan drive and 3 heads are very good. I worked on one of these, and owned another similar model. They are very trouble free. Never had a problem with the closed capstan drive eating tape or skewing the tape. Sorry, I can't remember the model numbers.

I have an ADF880 for 20 years or so. Trouble free all the way, except for when (back in 2000) I left it there idling for a couple of years. The drive belt became loose and slipped. I replaced it with what belt of same dimensions I could find at my local store and since then works perfectly.

It's a great deck and even has a remote (wonderful gadget back in '89). Sounds terrific and never chewed a tape. Dual capstan 3 motors and 3 heads. And it's also decent looking. Many decks back in those days started looking like garbage with lot's of plastic and colors trying to look fancy. This one just "looks business".

I recently got a Technics RS-B965 and it has similar specs apart from adding dbx to the specs. I must say I am impressed with the Technics.

I also had a 880 for two years or something. A bit plasticky but it never gave any trouble and sounded pretty good. The only reason I sold it was because fullfilled a dream: I bought a Nakamichi ZX-9.....

Anyone see that AD-F9000u go on eBay for over $200 with broken switches. It was and is one of the all time best Cassette Decks ever built. But where to get parts?

Aiwa parts are a PITA to get, always have been, even though Sony owns the company. Tritronics and Union Electronics are distributors.
