Adding Pre-out/Main in to Yamaha CR-820

I'm planning to add a subwoofer to my setup and am wanting to add a pre-out/main-in RCA connection to my receiver. After studying the schematic I think I've found the best place to make this addition but wanted to see if anyone else has done this before and if what I'm thinking of doing is the best place to splice into the circuit.

My plan is to lift one leg of the resistor R711 (and R712) and repurpose the tape 2 RCA connections on the back of the receiver as the new pre-out/main in. Again, is this the best place to add this connection?

I'm attaching a snip of the schematic to help illustrate where I'm thinking of tying into the audio signal:

Not sure about the preout location, but I have a low level speaker converter I hook up to the B channel. It's typically used in car audio but I found it works great for adding 2 subs to my setup using the RCA low level connections
 
Check and see if there are three wires that are coming out of the volume pot that go into the power amp section. If so, this should be the "pre out" that you can tap and send to some repurposed (or new) rca jacks on the back. The location on the main board that this was connected to will be the "main in", so you can connect a couple more RCA jacks here. I'm not sure if these older models have the same RCA jack spacing as the newer models. If so, you can buy the pre/main jumpers from Yamaha for like $3 plus shipping.

I'll be doing the same mod on my A1000 as soon as i get it back from the repair guy.

EDIT: But if you directly use the pre-out for your subwoofer, then there will be no main-in. You'll have to leave the amp wiring intact and just tap 3 wires from the volume pot (from the area that was sending the signal to the power amp section) and send those wires to RCA jacks on the back.

EDIT 2: On second thought, better let someone with experience chime in as i don't have experience with this model.

Up grade to a CR-1020 . It has pre-out / main - in coupler switch.
