ADS BC8 refurb project

That left over veneer might be useful for patching other ADS cabinets or things similar.
Didn’t think of that but with the use of steam they are a bit curled up. Not too much. When I did the longer sides I ended up using a knife and sectioning for ease of removal.

Started the veneers this week. Got bottom and one side each done. Hope to get the baffle and rear of the cabs painted by weeks end. Heading to see Baco99 today to see about remaking the grill frames. All coming together nicely. Got some new decals/plates and amp card plate remade. Soon it will be time to talk finishes. Til then.

These are really shaping up so nicely Tom. I was thinking about this project just last weekend and forgot to check up on this thread. Thanks for the update. Nice work fella!!

Garry~

Got some more pics of the veneers being done. I think this being my first full veneer project it didn’t come out too bad. Got the sides and top lined up pretty good. Only detail I kind of would do different is to mark the veneers so the details are same height. I’m off a bit but not too much. Now to tape up and paint the baffle and rear of cabinets. Sooooo close!!!

Your new grill frames are going on the mill today! A little shaping by hand and then ready for you to paint and cover.

Great work! Just ordered the fabric yesterday. Gotta get to paintin’

MAN! I can't wait for these to get finished. The absolute RIGHT man got these speakers Tom. Fabulous work all way round. Did you get the drivers back from Richard? I know he's taking off the month of July so I hope he finished those and had them out the door before he took off.

Garry~

Great job so far. Really envious, these should be fun when done.

One bit of advice I would add for next veneer project. Do the edge veneer on the face 1st, then run the top, bottom, and side over the edge veneer. As the veneer ages and dries out, this will protect the edges and keep the edge veneer from being pulled off if slid around or if something is dragged across the top. By the same stroke I would suggest doing the sides before the top and bottom if that makes sense.

Now I'm subscribed, can't wait to see when you're finished!

Yes Garry got them sitting still in the box he shipped them back to me. Also got some new aluminum decals from Burton Heaton that came out better than expected.
I’m on the hunt for another ADS grill badge/pin
Not sure if anyone is remaking them for cloth grills. I’ve seen a few for the metal grills but the pins aren’t long enough. I’ll keep searching.
Thanks

I do see your point about possibly scraping something across the the edge and possibly pulling the edge off. I guess I was thinking more about esthetics. And not looking directly at a seam. My process was to do bottom first then sides then top and tried to match the grain as best I could.
Cheers

Another update
Finished the baffles and the rear paint wasn’t happy with the paint had some runs which I sanded then repainted then had some crackling under sanded repaint area. So let it sit for the weekend re-sanded again then did a light spray coat over that holding rattle can more than 12” away turned out much better. So now I’m fine sanding all sides and will be using a wood sealer for even danish oil penetration. Probably a couple of applications then a good wipe and buff. then hopefully on to putting them all back together and hearing these for the first time.
cheers!

Well here they are. All together. Have them a quick listen to using a small integrated tuner NAD. Sounds incredible! All switches work as they should. Need to look into replacing the black input plugs on the amp cards. Having contact issues. Any info where to get them or a possible replacement type. Still have to work on the new grills putting fabric on and some final touches.
