ADS L/1290 issue

If it is a S1 version it has fuses on the tweeter and midrange. When those fuses pop the only thing protected (ideally) are those drivers. The speakers do not have an input fuse which would shut down the whole system. When the fuse pops or polyswitch kicks in (S2) it's the crossover that takes the beating if the user doesn't stop. And, they often don't because the woofers are still playing and at the level the system is at, their high-frequency hearing has fatigued out. They may not even notice that part of the program is missing.
 
So how long would the speaker go to make the plastic melt that that? seriously it had to glow to make the plastic melt like that

One of the first steps in my acquisition of gear is to inspect the fuses. All will be as specified, even the ADS fuses that are 1.6A rated. I tripped over a pile of fuses but the 1.6 is one I had to get to be able to put ADS back to correct...and now my big ads don't have fuses.
 
There is another protection idea, an inline fuse in the speaker cable. Out of sight of those that would be damaging the rig. Once the fuse pops, they'll give up not knowing to replace it or where it is.
 
I know this is an old theret, but I kind of want to know how it ended. Did the stepson eventually fess up to it? Did the soaspeak eventually get fixed? I have 1290's and I was going to send all drivers and crossovers to Richard to be redone. Is it worth it?

The OP wussed out on us over a year ago.

We'll probably never know what happened.

I only know one person who is disappointed with his Richard So revamped 1290s.

I was going to have him redo mine, but I'll need to save up a little money since I'm buying some Klipsch speakers, too.
 
OP hasn't bee here since Aug 2017. Would need to ping him to find out any more info.
