I've had both. I didn't miss the ADSs when they went, and I did miss the Vandies. On the other hand, I don't think my wife has hated the looks of any speaker as much as she hated the Vandersteens. Normally she puts up with whatever I am using perfectly happily (only two pairs allowed in the house, please), but she actively campaigned for the departure of the Vandersteens.
For what its worth, she hasn't hated the sound of any speaker as much as she hated some early Maggies -- I think it drove her nuts that when she stood up, the treble disappeared since they beam so dramatically in the vertical plane, and she likes bass, which the Maggies don't exactly produce in overabundance, even if you are in the sweetspot (a concept that she rejects utterly) when they are positioned correctly.
