I'll get right to the point- I have a set of ADS L-880s at the moment, and am quite happy with them, but today I stumbled upon a pair of L-810's for $100. Does anyone have any experience with both sets of these speakers, that can give an informed opinion on which model sounds better? Thanks

Love my L880's. Never heard 810's. Don't have room for both? Extremely fair price. Don't let on here, where they are.
Edit: My point is they may not be unsold long. If working and good condition, not hard to resell at that cost.
Try searching 880 and 810 on AK. Question has probably been asked before on such popular brand.
I have L880 series 1 and 2. Two is slightly improved version. Two dropped the fuse. also.

I could use one set in the living room and one set in the bedroom I suppose- but right now I'm down to one listening system. In fact if the general consensus here were that the 810s were significantly better, I'd probably actually see about selling the 880s. It would be a tough decision though.

I have a pair of 810s and they are very nice. Bass is to boomy for me at times but they do very very well at most of what they do.

I haven't bought them yet. This dude has the 810s, an ADS Model 10 Acoustic Synthesizer, two turntables (technics and yamaha) a Yamaha CR-2040 receiver and a dbx dynamic range expander. He's basically asking $100 for each piece. I'm trying to decide what I can do best for the $300 I have to play with. So if the consensus on here was that the 810s were not a significant improvement over the 880s, I might have to pass on them to grab some of the other stuff. It sucks being poor and having to conduct difficult decisions in this hobby.

Ok, now we have a better picture of your question and dilemma. I've herd 810's and they sounded great. I haven't heard L880's, though I have the L980's, which are great, and I would assume the 880's sound the same with a little less bass.
I haven't heard them in an A/B comparison though. Tough choice and decision. Are the close by, and would you be able to bring them home to demo and compare first?
That's some nice gear for decent money. I would try and buy it all as a package and try to get him down a bit on the price. Try it all out and sell what you decide is not right for you. It sounds like it would be easy to make your money back by selling a piece or two. I wish you the best of luck and keep us updated.
I had both the 810's and the 880's here and did many a+b comparisons as one pair had to go. It was a tough decision as they're both great speakers and I went back and forth many times on which pair to keep. The end result was the 880's left and the 810's stayed here until a pair of 1230's showed up to send the 810's away. You should somehow find the small amount of cash that guy is asking for those components. If you don't you'll be having long term regrets for letting that deal slip away unless you are actually that "poor". If that's the case you shouldn't be here asking questions in the first place

IMO the L880/II is the best balanced "big" bookshelf speaker ADS made. I am also not a fan of the L710/L810.

You have a lot of great feedback here. I just recently picked up a set of L810's and have been listening to them for the last week. About 5 yrs ago, I had a set of L880's, but due to circumstances at the time, I had to let them go. However, if I had them today, they would be staying.
Memory of a sound is not as good as being able to A/B test listen to them in the same room/source, etc. but I tend to recall the L880 as being a little better balanced overall. They were also a step up in their trim/finish as they were a newer release. For $100, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain as you can certainly resell them later for the same or more.
If it were me, I would also pick up the Yammie and sell it to get the L880's essentially for free.

I already have the 880s. It's the 810s this guy is selling that I am wondering about. I know soundmotor is an ADS guru on here, so when he says the 880s (which I already have) are maybe the best large bookshelf/ stand speaker that ADS made, and they won't be bested by the 810s, it makes me start to wonder if I should pass on the 810s (even if they are a good deal) and concentrate more on the equipment.
