L1290 has provisions for bi-amping with an active crossover. I don't believe the 1090 does.
Aside from that and the differences you mentioned they are the same.
Some guys have ADS speakers and Magico wives. Which would you trade?

I talked to the guy and he is firm on his price, but said because they have not sold that he is thinking about keeping them. I have a pair of L1090-2 that I picked up close to me on Long Island from a guy who owns a studio and had used them for his monitors for years and was getting rid of them. They are not bi ampable. It is a long ride to Delaware to pick them up, but they look like they are in great shape and I like that he has the original manual and brochure.
I would like to bi-amp them but am a nursing student and not a stereo expert so I am a bit ignorant. I just bought a Yamaha RX-V667 AV receiver which has a provision for bi amping. Does anyone know if I need an external crossover in order to hook them up the Yamaha? I don't even know what an external crossover is so I would have to learn about that if it is required. The Yamaha manual doesn't mention anything about a crossover, it just says to configure the amp for a 5+1 Bi amp configuration and to use the output that would go to the presence speakers for the second set of wires for the bi amping.
If I can do that, then I will use the L1090-2 speakers for my rear channel. Then I have to still come up with a center channel speaker and a subwoofer. As a sidebar, my first ADS speakers that I bought were L620s that I bought in 1982 or 1983. They still sound and look great and I even have the original cartons that they came in!

Can anyone help me with this issue. Look at post #12. I am going to call the seller today, but I don't want to drive 300 miles round trip and learn that I can't do what I want to do. I will also call Yamaha customer support and ask them, and I have already contacted them via email. I just have to wait for an answer. I won't be doing anything until at least the 24th because I have finals, then graduation so I am pretty busy for the next 9 days.

I'd put the wife on Craigs and keep the speaks.
I bought a pair of L1290s a few months back and have been really enjoying them(natural wood finish(maple?), not rosewood, not black, grills in pretty good shape, drivers all very clean! and working great! pretty spiffy pair imo). I am running them with older NAD gear(2600a and 1700 preamp), separate post over in Vintage Solid State has similar questions btw, but I am considering bi-amping them, or even tri-amping...looking at a modern Rane Xover to handle the signal separation? any thoughts?
could always do what i did, tell her she bitches too much and its time to gtfo.
wasnt a wife tho just a gf, marriage might be the way to go for some of yall and thats fine, but its not for me
