Came across this on my regular searches.
Interesting timing on this add as I just finished reading the thread about refurbishment of a pair of these. They are out of my budget and I can’t find space for my Cornwall’s so these are definitely out.

If they are in as good condition as the pictures make them look $800 seems like a good deal on these guys, yes?

Hopefully an AKer will buy them and invite me over for an audition!

I just saw that too and sent him an email asking some questions. They do look like they are in very nice condition. Have never had an ADS larger than the 830 but would sure love these.
(I would have to get rid of my BA400's to fit these in though.):(

Awesome, thanks for the link, I gave it a follow and will update if I see anything.

I don’t have any experience with vintage Boston stuff (I don’t have experience with much gear in general) but the CR75’s I have perform well as shop speakers. I would love to hear these l1530’s. The recording from the rebuild thread was of good quality (he had one of his 910’s too) and they definitely made me more interested in vintage ADS than I had been. Good luck!

FWIW I sold my BA400's to make room for a pair of 1530's and I have no regrets.
 
Ya the wife likes the 400's and I do as well. They fit the space perfectly and sound wonderful.
I just spoke to the seller and he was going to speak to the lady who owns the estate to see if some of my questions could be answered.
He said that he had gotten a bunch of responses so far and would call me back.
I would sure like to hear these first but it's a drive to get out to the coast and not actually speaking to the owner is kinda
sketchy but we shall see.
If I don't get them I bet I will see them up on CL tomorrow..... For 2x the price.:(
I hope that if I don't get them some local AK'r does.
 
This is the kind of thing I would gamble on if my speaker coffers were not already running a debit. Worst case scenario they turn out to be more of a project than you’d like and there is still a good chance you could get your money back, or more, selling them in the Portland area.

If that is true and with the discussion of the 1530 being so close to the 1590, this makes me believe the left coasters, limited availability market, has these priced at 2x the east coast going rate. Not sure but with 1290s being 400, that would make the 1590 about 800. These at 2x that is to me, too high for what little they offer over/under the 1590. This based on reading here on ak about these two 1500-series, owning the 1590/2. I guess it would be like paying shipping if they do in fact show up on the list for 2x the buy. Let's hope as you did they make it to the community instead, or your crib.

Wow those look fantastic. I'm almost tempted but I'll bet someone from Ptld metro gets them by the weekend.

I only have the ADS 400s and they're nice.

Scarcity in the Nothwest likely drives a fair bit of the pricing. I think there are likely a number of reasons for the shortage of gear out here, but that is another discussion. I watch several for-sale outlets (not including Barter Town or eBay) and I see gear like this once a month, maybe. Additionally, I would go so far as to say ADS gear is uncommon to rare in the Portland area. I think it’s safe to say I see one new set of ADS a week and a lot of it is small home theater type stuff.

I agree with you that most decent gear brings a premium here as opposed to other parts of the country. But if your estimation that the 1590’s are with about $800 is accurate, and if the 1530’s are a little better (and probably more rare), then a fair price may be in the ~$1000 range. I think that makes $800 here a good deal.

I need more than the maybe two folks that have had both 15xx speakers to claim one superior. The 90 has some newer technology and of course a different presentation. Maybe rare but maybe newer by a decade is the way to go. But 8 should be a good deal for a user but idk about a flipper. Guess we gotta wait for them to show up in Bucky's crib and let him tell us how they sound.

Fair enough. I have no experience with ADS gear, let alone both the 1590 and 1530. My hope, as with all good vintage, is that it goes to someone who will use and appreciate it.
 
Those look pretty nice.

There was only one ADS dealer in the Portland metro area for years which was Chelsea Audio. I purchased my L880 IIs from them back in the mid-80s and they've been one of my favorite speakers of almost all the pairs I've owned. I noted the 1530's are heavy!
 
I bet these have sold already. I just betcha.
I guess the lesson I need to learn is, "Don't ask any questions" when it comes to an Estate sale.
Just go, gettum(3hr drive one way), and hope that they don't need to much TLC.
The other lesson is that gear like this comes up every so often. You know, a really rare pair of sumpthin's. Well I have lots of spare gear just sittin' around, not being used, that I should have sold some time ago. It's my fault for not selling it and having the cash, and room, ready for when these 'sumpthins appear.
I have been blessed as far as speakers go. I have some Khorns, the BA400's and Wharfe W90's so I really can't complain to much.
Those 1530's would have been nice to have though.
Still hoping a brother get's them.
